Is That Wind?

Ianto Jones rolled over in his bed, light just beginning to shine in through the slits in the blinds. His alarm clock wouldn't go off for another two minutes, so he had 120 seconds to enjoy the warmth and comfort of his little bed. He sometimes wished that he would wake up, roll over, and see the gorgeous face of Jack Harkness staring back at him. The few nights when that did happen, it was the best feeling in the world. But alas, the only thing staring back at him this morning was the blank wall across the room.

The familiar beeping filled the room and Ianto snapped his hand over and switched off the horrid noise. He swung his legs out of bed and groaned, picking his mobile up off of his bed side stand. Thankfully, he had no missed texts or calls, just a few astray notifications. He opened up the weather app, and saw that it would be in the high 30's. Not that it mattered anyways. No matter the weather, Ianto always wore a suit to work.

The day started like any other started, that was until Ianto noticed the date that was displayed on his home screen. 19, Aug. Tuesday.

Ianto immediately wanted to flop back into bed, for today was his birthday. His 30th birthday. Damn I'm old. Ianto chuckled to himself. Ianto used to love his birthday. He would get to invite a friend or two over, they would have cake and Ianto would get to open presents. That was his favourite part, the presents. He loved seeing how people thought of him, the little gifts they thought he would enjoy.

Ianto made his way to the bathroom where he brushed his teeth and cleaned himself up. He slipped into a suit, paired with his pink and white tie, which was one of his favourites. Ianto grabbed his things and dashed out the door, then made his way to work.

Ianto went through the little tourist shack, slipping his car keys in a drawer beneath the counter before making his way to the hub. Ianto stepped through the giant cog shaped door, followed by the metal gates swinging open. He scanned the hub, glancing around for his coworkers.

"Hello?" He called out. "Gwen? Tosh?" Ianto glanced towards the computers where the girls normally spent their days.

"Owen?" Ianto made his way over to the autopsy room, but there was no doctor present.

Ianto checked the time on his watch again, making sure he was right. It was nearing 8 in the morning, so where was everyone?

"Ianto! That you down there?" Jack called, trotting down the metal stairs.

"Uhm, where is everyone?" Ianto asked.

Jack chuckled, flashing his bright teeth. "Told them to take the day off."

"Why's that?"

"Because, Jones, Ianto Jones, today is your birthday, and I have one hell of a gift for you." Jack said, approaching Ianto. "I felt it would be easier without the group here."

Ianto's mind traveled to dark places, but he still was slightly confused. "What do you mean by that?"

Jack traced his thumb over Ianto's jaw, then stopped when he reached his chin. "There's someone I want you to meet." Jack grinned and pulled away, energy filling his body. "Annnd, he should be here any minute!" Jack pushed an array of buttons on his vortex manipulator.

"Can I at least brew some coffee first? I didn't make any at home today." Ianto said, practically feeling the weight of sleep crushing him.

"No time for that!" Jack said.

Suddenly, a strange noise filled the room. Papers began to flutter about, and Jack had a smile on his face that could light up the world- and then some.

"What is that? Wind?" Ianto said, glancing around.

Out of nowhere, a big blue box began to materialize in front of them. Jack grabbed Ianto's hand and pulled him close.
