This was part of a request from Loki__is__hot in my Avengers one-shot book where I wrote the first part that centers around Tony (you can find the one-shot under the same title in said book). Now I write from Peter Quill's perspective.

For anyone who didn't read that one-shot, the reader is Tony Stark's daughter, she ran away from home and was abducted by HYDRA who turned her into a weapon. She escaped and disappeared before HYDRA recaptured her. When Tony catches wind of this he rushes to the reader's aid, but she is reluctant to go back with her father. After injecting her with a sedative to prevent S.H.I.E.L.D. from killing her off, Tony combs through HYDRA's files and learns she had a son with a man whose surname is Quill.

Some angst. Enjoy my first Guardians of the Galaxy one-shot.

"Quill, would you slow down?!" Rocket exclaims as Peter puts the ship at top speed. "No way, Peter answers with determination, "We're not stopping till we find (y/n) and bring her back home. I lost her once already, I'm not about to lose her again."

After searching the ends of the Earth for three years, with a little help from his friends, Peter finally got a lead that you were holed up on some secret HYDRA base in the Himalayas. It hadn't been easy for the young Star Lord all those years...especially since he had a kid at home to look after in addition to finding you. Once he got the lead he took Rocket, Mantis, and Gamora with him, leaving your son at home with Drax and Groot to babysit (Drax already has experience raising a kid and your son likes to cuddle with Groot like a wooden teddy bear).

-------------The Past-----------------------
You ran as fast as you could, not looking back for fear that HYDRA may be tracking you down at this moment.
Ever since being abducted by the Winter Solider, you spent the last three years as a "volunteer" for experiments that were very similar to what the Maximoff twins went through. As a result you gained the ability to channel electricity, and HYDRA turned you into something of a guard dog in order to keep hidden their darkest secrets. Success kept you out of trouble, failure guaranteed you a severe beating, attempting to escape...well let's not go there....not after what happened the last poor sap who thought leaving was a good idea.

After spending three years between misery and hell on earth, you finally found the opportunity to escape once and for all. You didn't care about the risk of getting caught and being dragged back to be executed. It didn't matter if you got away or not; dead or alive, you would finally be free either way.

The sounds of agents distant behind you urged you to run even faster until you found a place to hide. As you wait for the agents to run passed you, you started to wonder where you would go now that you were free. There was always the option to go back to your father Tony Stark, but what were the chances he knew that you were even alive? What were the chances he even cared anymore? Life as a Stark, from what you remembered, wasn't as glamorous as it would sound; your father had spent most of his time either in his lab or going on business trips that occasionally wound up on the newspaper with the billionaire wearing less clothing than a kid should see of their father.
No, going back to Tony was not an option for you.

-----------The Present-------------

"Peter if you keep this up, the ship will run out of fuel long before we even get there," Gamora reasons, "I'm sure (y/n) will still be there, regardless of how long it'll take for us to get there." "It's not that," Peter states, "Three years, I've spent three years trying to find (y/n). Everyday since, my son has always been asking where his mama is and when she's coming back...and everyday I have to keep coming up with excuses as to why she isn't home yet. What if...What if I get there and I have to go back and tell (y/s/n) that his mother is never coming back?"
