A/N: One more chapter to go!

Chapter forty-four:

The sun was setting, making the vast, endless sky its canvas as it painted it in hues of pink, orange and purple. The smell of fresh trees was saturating the air; the cool breeze blowing the branches of trees around, bringing with it the sound of rustling leaves and chirping birds. This was home--so full of life. But tainting the picturesque atmosphere was the growls and cries of people coming from deep within.

Cyra pushed down on the accelerator and drove forth towards the epicenter of all the noise and her Pack. The closer she got, the more she could feel the panic and anger of her Wolves overwhelming her senses. Their presence was churning around inside of her and their screaming thoughts deafened her own.

What is happening here? Leo! She mindlinked to all of her Pack.

Alpha! It felt like all of them exclaimed in unison, relief and a sense of security washing over them at having their Alpha back with them.

Before Cyra could reply, her car swerved out of the road, almost crashing into a huge mahogany tree. A Wolf's body was thrown at her car and it slowly slid down her windshield, leaving behind a trail of blood. She recognised the scent as one of her own.

Cyra, there's been an attack, Leo quickly said, she could hear how out of breath he sounded. Alpha Liam found out that you were missing and he just attacked.

Blood rushed to Cyra's ears and she felt her whole body shaking. "Alpha Liam has attacked our Pack," she announced, her voice coming out unsteadily. Before anybody else could reply anything, she jumped out of her car and started sprinting towards her Pack, not even stopping to allow herself to completely shift. When she was a few metres away from her perimeters, she could see the blood and bodies of her Wolves and other littering here and there. The repugnant stench was pushed back and the growls and yelps of the Wolves subsided in her mind. All that she could feel was unhinged anger coursing through her. This son of a bitch had tried to pressure her into mating with him, insulting her true Mate and when she rejected him, he would turn around and back stab her and attack her Pack? If they thought she was going to overlook this young, naive Alpha's treachery, they had another thing coming.

The fur on the back of her neck was standing in attention and a booming growl erupted from her chest. She dodged some of the cadavers of the Wolves while she stomped the others. She saw the first of Wolves running rampant in the town, trying to tear down the buildings, seemingly brick by brick while the people inside screamed and tried to hold the invaders off. The sight burned through her and a low, threatening sneer rumbled through her chest. She pounced on the Wolf closest to her and plunged her claws into his back and dragged her nails down, tearing his skin open. The Wolf whimpered under her and tried turning around but Cyra pushed him into the wall and sunk her canined into his extended neck and yanked till she tore his throat out and the Wolf fell down limp at her feet in a pool of its own blood. Another Wolf attacked Cyra from behind, trying to reach around and tear the flesh on her shoulder blades when Cyra pushed back, falling on top of him and tearing out his throat quickly. She looked around at the other handful of Wolves terrorising her town and the people. She could see her people behind some of the glass windows, covering away and crying in the buildings. Her fury skyrocketed, her instincts to protect her people kicking in. These handful of low-level warriors were no match to an Alpha Wolf like her.

She ran towards the Wolves and tore whatever part of their body she could hold on to. She cried when a Wolf managed to sink its canines deep enough to pull out a big chunk of flesh from her back but when she kicked it with her hind leg and pushed it off him, she saw the Wolves were struggling against some sort of hold, their bodies convulsing as they fell to the ground.
