Chapter seven:

It was dark and the sun was at its peak position in the sky. The serenity and calmness of the place was immediately felt as Cyra walked through the dense woods. Not too late after, she saw the trees separating as the sunlight started pouring through. The untamed, huge trees of the forest gave way to a neatly kept garden with bushes and grasses and she could see some of the Wolves standing guard around the shrine.

When the Wolves saw the visitor, signalling her arrival. Recognising her as an Alpha, they let her pass through. Pushing the heavy wooden doors open, she walked in; her footsteps echoing through the otherwise quiet, old house. She looked around, having never really been here.

The ceiling was about 15 feet high as a chandelier, that looked dangerously ancient to her, threw its soft light of candles on the huge hall. There were beautifully decorated pillars every here and there, supporting the tall roof. Her eyes lowered as she saw candlesticks holding candles throughout the room with dark, antique furniture. The room was the farthest looking thing from modern but she could clearly see how comfortable and updated it was. The dark room with sombre lighting reminded her so much of womb—making her shake her head at the comparison.

"Alpha Cyra, is there any reason for your unexpected visit?" A heavy voice said, as she snapped her wandering eyes towards the source of the sound.

"My Lord," she bowed at the head of the Elders that stood before her. "There's been some mishaps in my Pack and I wanted your expertise to help us."

She saw as he glided down the grand staircase and within seconds, stood before her. "Which is?"

"Vampires, my Lord. They were near our Pack borders again. Their stench is all over there," she said as he took a seat on the plush, velvet sofa.

He stared at her, seemingly scrutinising her as her cheeks flushed under his heavy stare—remembering how humiliated she felt before the Elders after the last time Vampires had intruded into their Pack.

A couple of seconds passed and she resisted her urge to avert her eyes—not wanting to seem too vulnerable in front of him. The sounds of the other three Elders arriving into the room saved her from the situation as her eyes moved to look at them.

"How do you want us to help with the Vampires?" One of them asked, sounding so very bored to her that it embarrassed her.

"We don't know anything about Vampires which is hindering us from making any progress with catching them and preventing them from entering our realm again."

"Are you sure those were Vampires?" The other person asked, cocking his thick, greying eyebrow at her.

"Yes. I recognise the smell and the Warlock, Djomahn confirmed it," she told him, trying very hard to not lose her strand of patience with them. Goddess knows the wrath she would have to bear from them if they were to be angered.

They all sat in silence, all four pair of dark eyes watching her making her want to squirm. She straightened her back and cleared her throat. "We don't know how Vampires entered our realm and since you're the peacekeepers of the laws, I was wondering if you'd weigh the offense and try and stop it."

She could see how much her words had affected them as their, usually dead eyes, brimmed with fury. "We only keep Wolves like you in line. Vampires don't come under our jurisdiction."

"Well, since I'm the Alpha, I want to keep my people safe. So if there was anything you could tell me about Vampires that would help me," she said, chanting to herself over and over again to keep her calm.

"Keeping the different species apart from each other is the duty of the Witches. This does not, in any way, concern us."

She could see that the conversation was coming to end but she couldn't give up just yet. Sucking in a deep breath, she tried one more time. "I understand. But if there was any information you had about Vampires—any books, manuscripts, anything at all; it would be of great help."
