Chapter nine:
Silence surrounded them; the dusky sky seemed so calm and peaceful—the complete opposite to what was happening in Cyra's mind. Her mind was racing with thoughts as one question after another kept bombarding inside her. Their visit to Sebastian's childhood house left her more confused than ever—about her feelings towards him, about what had happened in his life and about he himself. Her curiosity had skyrocketed and reached its peak but one glance at him, and all her questions died in her throat.
It had been so long since Sebastian had stepped foot in his old home—he had almost forgotten how it even looked. Even though it was in complete ruins, he felt like he was finally home and the feeling of it had pushed him to tears. He didn't know for how long he stood there crying as each memory that resurfaced in his mind only made him cry harder. How had his home come down to this? How had his family come down to this? But after who knows how long, he finally pulled himself together and they both quietly walked beside each other, each lost in their own thoughts.
"Sebastian?"
"Sera?" Sebastian sounded surprised as a tall, lean girl stared back at him.
"I thought I heard you," she said, a smile finding its way on her face as she walked towards the both of them. "How have you been?"
"I'm fine," Sebastian said but she clearly didn't look convinced. After a pause, he continued, "And you?"
"I'm fine as well. What are you doing here?" She asked, a slight edge to her tone.
"I... I'm just visiting," he cryptically said, not knowing how else he could explain his situation.
"Who's this?" She asked, referring to the woman who was scrutinising her with her cold stare.
"Alpha Cyra," Cyra arrogantly replied, looking down her nose at the stranger.
Her eyes widened as she recognised the name. What was Sebastian doing with the Alpha who was betrothed to their Alpha Liam?
"And who are you?" Cyra asked impatiently.
"Seraphina, Alpha," she answered, still seeming to be lost in thought.
"How do you know Sebastian?"
Seraphina was taken aback by all these sudden bombardment of questions but she didn't let it show. She knew how irrational these Alphas could get and she didn't want to get on the bad side of one. "We used to be close friends," she replied, a playful twinkle in her eyes as she looked at Sebastian who was now beet red.
Cyra narrowed her eyes at her. "Is that so?" She turned to look at Sebastian and raised her brow at him and he only flushed further.
"Alpha, we were friends before I left this Pack," he softly said.
Sera curiously looked between their interaction but wisely chose not to comment anything on it.
"How is Rosa?" Sera asked, a fond smile on her face.
"She misses them sometimes but she's a very smart girl. She doesn't show it much, probably thinks that it would make me sad as well," he said with a light chuckle.
"I'm really sorry for whatever happened, Seb. Neither you nor Rosa deserved it."
"Yeah," he trailed off, giving her a weak smile.
"Listen, I've got to go now, but if you need anything you know where to find me." The two exchanged smiles as Cyra questioningly looked at them with raised brows.
"Alpha," Seraphina smiled at Cyra and walked away.
"You seemed to know her well?" Cyra casually asked as she started walking and Sebastian quickly fell into pace with her.
