The Reid Method: A New Chapter
Chapter Twelve- Nothing Breaks Like A Heart
It's been eighteen months since Spencer was infected with anthrax. In those eighteen months, there have been a lot of changes.
The twins started walking and talking-they're three years old now. Henry turned into a teenager-he's thirteen. Victoria got her licence and now Natalie is next in line to get hers. Ian and Courtney broke up when he got a new job in L.A. Four months later, she met Julian— they met when Spencer and the team were working on a case in New York. Two months after that, they officially started dating. Cameron graduated from high school and is starting at the FBI Academy in September. There was still a risk of him inheriting his father's heart condition but Spencer and Courtney agreed that they would think about that when it was a reality.
J.J. was called into another video conference with Strauss and Hotch. It was about the position at the State Department. J.J. had gotten the offer twice and had turned it down twice. She wanted to stay at the B.A.U. with the team.
Spencer was sitting in the conference room of the New York field office looking over the case files when he got a call on his phone. He looked at the Caller ID, it was Natalie's cell phone. "Hi, honey" Spencer greeted her as he answered the call.
"Uncle Spence, you need to get to the hospital. It's Cam" Natalie spoke quickly.
"What happened?" Spencer asked with concern as he grabbed his coat and bag and walked towards the stairs.
The twins were back in D.C. with Sandy. She offered to take the twins for the weekend and Spencer and J.J. decided to let them stay with her so she could spend time with them.
Cameron, Owen, Henry, and Jonah were playing basketball in the driveway of their Aunt Courtney's house. Victoria and Natalie were sitting on the front steps of the house. Natalie was studying for her upcoming biology test while Victoria was texting.
Cameron passed the ball to Henry and guarded Jonah as the four of them ran towards the hoop at the end of the driveway. Aunt Courtney's new boyfriend, Julian, had installed the hoop at the end of the driveway. They've been going out for almost a year.
Cameron was dribbling the ball down the driveway when he felt the first pain in his chest. He should have stopped playing when he noticed it but instead he kept going. He dribbled the ball to the end of the driveway and made a shot into the hoop. When it went through the hoop, Owen cheered—he and Cam were on the same team.
Cam smiled, happy that he made the shot, a sharp pain in his chest made him flinch. Henry and Jonah continued with the game as Owen noticed his brother. He shook it off and jogged down to the end of the driveway to try to take the ball back from Henry. Cameron winced, putting his hand on his chest.
"Cam?" Owen noticed that his brother had stopped playing. He made his way over to him.
At this point, Henry and Jonah noticed that something was wrong with Cam. The front yard went quiet and Victoria and Natalie looked over to find that the game had stopped. Natalie looked over at Cam, who still had his hand on his chest.
"Cam?" Natalie said making her way over to him, Victoria followed behind her. They helped Cameron sit down on the driveway. He was panting and wincing in pain.
"Is the pain going out through your shoulder, Cam?" Natalie asked urgently. She knelled down on the ground next to him, feeling his wrist for his pulse.
Cameron nodded silently.
"Should I call?" Victoria asked, worried.
Natalie looked back at Victoria and then back to Cameron. "Yes, call."
