Chapter Eight- All My Feelings Coming Back Again

Three weeks later, J.J. was helping the boys get ready for school and packing things into their lunch bags. The smell of mayonnaise was making her feel nauseous, she decided to ignore it continuing to make the sandwiches. She suddenly stopped and realized why this feeling was so familiar.

It was June 30, 1999, and J.J. was in the kitchen of her family home helping her mother make sandwiches for lunch. A wave of nausea washed over J.J. as she spread the mayonnaise over the bread, the smell was making her stomach do flips. This was the third time this week that she felt sick and her period was five days late.

J.J. didn't want to admit it but she knew what was going on. She decided that if she didn't get her period in the next three days, she was going to make a doctor's appointment.

J.J. set down the butter knife she was using and went over to the calendar in the kitchen. She counted the days. It had been a week already, she was a week late.

She sighed, leaning against the calendar on the wall. Jonah was standing behind her with his backpack.

"Mom, are you okay?" Jonah asked with concern in his voice.

J.J. stood up straight and turned to face him. "Yes, Honey, I'm fine." She went over to the counter and grabbed his packed lunchbox off the counter handing it to him.

When the boys went to school, J.J. called her doctor to make an appointment. She managed to get an appointment for two days later.

Over the next couple of days, life went on as usual. J.J. presented the cases and the team worked on them, luckily they were local so that J.J. could be in town to go to her doctor.

She remembered the first time she had went to an appointment like this, when she thought she was pregnant with Henry.

An almost eighteen year old J.J. sat down in the waiting room trying to distract herself from the reason she was there. There was a woman not much older than her there with a baby, sleeping quietly in her arms. J.J. imagined what it would be like to have a child of her own. Don't think about that yet, she reminded herself. Find out first.

When J.J.'s name was called, she followed the doctor back into the examination room. She took a seat on the bed as the doctor sat down on the chair in front of her.

"What can I do for you today, Jennifer?" she asked smiling.

"I think that I'm pregnant and I'd like to find out for sure" J.J. explained.

"Not to worry, Jennifer" the doctor said, writing down some notes. "We're going to do some blood work to find out. You should get the results back within a week."

J.J. nodded taking the paper from the doctor as she handed it to her. "Thanks."

Once again, J.J. found herself in the same position as she was that day. She took the note from the doctor and headed down to the blood collection lab to the get the blood work done. She would find out in a week.

Two days before J.J. was going to find out, Spencer came over to spend some time with the boys. He was helping them with homework while J.J. made dinner in the kitchen. He came into the kitchen to see if she needed help.

J.J. was stirring the spaghetti in the pot when Spencer noticed her sway a little. Her made his way over to her to make sure she was okay. When he reached her, she tried to steady herself on the stove. Spencer came up behind her holding her steady, she put her head against his chest.
