Chapter Two-Sealed With Lies

Spencer spent the next two weeks sleeping on the couch after he made his confession to J.J. about kissing Lila. He knew that he was lucky it was only two weeks.

He talked to Samantha on his way into work. They still called each other every morning and every night.

"How is everything going with J.J.?" Samantha asked. Spencer had filled both of his sisters in about what happened in Los Angeles. They were both checking in on him daily.

"Not great. But it has improved" Spencer said. "I still can't believe that I let it happen." He shook his head.

"It was one kiss" Samantha pointed out. "You got caught up in the moment."

"How are the kids doing?" Spencer asked, changing the subject.

"Good. Really well." Samantha said. "Cameron is even trying out for football this afternoon after school."

"That's exciting" Spencer smiled.

"He could be the youngest ever recruited on a varsity football team" Samantha told him.

That afternoon, Spencer was in the round table room finishing up paperwork on a case they had just closed.

Cameron approached the round table room where he could see his Uncle through the windows. He knocked on the open door once he reached it. "Uncle Spence?"

Spencer looked up and noticed the boy standing at the door. "Cam. What are you doing here? How did football try-outs go?"

Cameron's face dropped as his memory reminded him of why he was here. The truth was, he really didn't want to be here but he needed to talk to someone about what he had seen.

Spencer looked at Cameron with concern and knew that something was wrong. "What is it?"

Cameron stood in the door, shaking slightly, unable to tell Spencer what was going on.

Spencer got up from his chair and walked over to Cameron. "Come here" he whispered taking his arm and guiding him over to the chairs around the table. The boy sat down in the chair across from his uncle.

Spencer closed both of the doors to the round table room and then went back to his chair across from Cameron and sat down. "Whenever you're ready we can talk, okay?" Spencer said softly, almost whispering.

Cameron nodded.

The two sat there in silence for a few minutes.

"Owen is at his friends house for a play date" Cameron finally spoke, looking down at the ground. "Victoria has soccer and Natalie went to her piano lesson." Cameron lifted his chin making eye contact with his Uncle. "Mom went to buy groceries. Dad was home. I thought he was alone."

Spencer understood what he was implying. "He wasn't?" Spencer was angry. Angry at Connor. Angry that Cameron had witnessed his father's betrayal. Now, he was going to be the one to tell Samantha the truth. He couldn't show how he felt, he needed to take care of Cameron's feelings right now.
