Chapter 16: Keeper
Pina's POV
I can't see anything, I thought that a place like this would at least have some light. Then again, it wouldn't be so secret if it was lit up like a christmas tree. The only person who can see anything right now is Lewis because of the cameras hidden in the tunnel. He's leading the group around the tunnel while slowing down the intruders.
"Lewis, are you ok? You seem abnormally calm considering the situation that we're in right now." I say to him.
"Zaku told me that panicing doesn't help anyone so staying calm is the best thing to do. I've decided to stay calm and it's going very well." That sounds like something that Zaku would say. Staying calm has helped Zaku get through a lot of tough times. I wonder how she's doing at the moment? Does Titan know about this raid and is getting Zaku out of the camp? No, Titan would stick to the plan no matter what. "STOP!" I looked in front of us and tried to make something out. The only thing that I could make out was Lewis and Hannah who were standing right beside me. "There's something up ahead and it's huge. It looks like the Hulk got turned into a puddle of slop and put back together by a child." A large pudgy thing that looked like a slop of Hulk? Is that the Keeper? In the main base, the underground system had a Keeper that would only let RDAA members pass or their guests. "Pina, do you know what that is?"
"It's the Keeper. I completely forgot that there would be one in the tunnels. No one knows what they look like except for the Grandmaster and Zaku's Dad. The Keepers never come out of the tunnels. Is there a way around him?" Lewis's eyes flashes blue again.
"No, this is the only way to the lake. The other directions either lead to a dead end or death." So we really don't have any choice but to confront it. I hope using Zaku as a way to get though will be enough. "What's the plan?"
"We have to keep going because turning back isn't a choice." Hannah said.
"I agree with Hannah, when we meet the Keeper no one say anything. If the worst comes to the worst then I'll distract him while you guys make a run for the lake." There is no other option. Let's just hope that nothing bad happens.
"Who goes there (such a cliche line)?"
"My name's Pina from the RDAA and we would like to come past."
"From the RDAA? What is your business here? This base has been long abandoned so there shouldn't be any RDAA's here."
"My friends and I are here to stop the Russian terrorists from destroying the world. Mimi here is going to visit her relative and we're also trying to help her."
"Then why are you here in the tunnel?"
"A large group of people invaded the base so we came down here to escape. Right now, we are trying to save princess Zaku from captivity."
"Princess Zaku's in captivity? How is that possible? If she's the grand-daughter of the Grandmaster then she should have an outstanding amount of power right?"
"Her aura's being surpressed so she can't do much. We have someone on the inside who is willing to help us get her back."
"Then why are you helping that girl Mimi?"
"She's here to visit a relative."
"According to her scent, she's the daughter of the head terrorist. Oh wait, has she told you that yet?" What? Then, then that means that Mimi's father is holding Zaku hostage and she's giving him information about our whereabouts. There was a cracking sound and then a high pitch scream. The Keeper made a small fireball in his hand that illuminated the cave.
"I would suggest that you don't move." Alex said. He must've restrained Mimi by binding her with rocks. Did Zaku and Nina know about this? I didn't completely trust her but I thought that it was just me so I ignored it. But something seems odd, if Mimi told her dad where we were going to land then we would've been ambushed and the entire team would've been killed or captured. Why hasn't that happened until now? "What do we do now Hannah?"
"Mimi, is this true? If so, did you know that the group of people were coming to attack the base?" She asked Mimi. Now, there are two sides to this coin, she can either deny everything and say that the Keeper is wrong or she can admit that it's true. What are we going to do to her if she admits that the Keeper is right?
"Yes, it's all true. I am the daughter of the head terrorist but I didn't know that there were people coming here to attack the base."
"Why are you here?"
"My dad sent me here to convince Duncan into coming to Russia by himself so that he could take him hostage and hold him for ransom. I'm sorry Duncan..." That's why she called her dad, she was telling him that there was more people besides Duncan who came to Russia with her. "I took this as another mission but when I got to know Duncan I wanted to abort the mission because I started to develop actual feelings for him. Since by passive is simple decieve, it wasn't hard to become his girlfriend. As soon as we came to Russia, I've regretted every single moment." Is she trying to convince us? No one seems that convinced not even Duncan. Duncan looked disappointed and sad. I would feel the same way if I heard this.
"Is that why one of the Russian soldiers that we encountered called you mistress? It was quite strange why they let you pass without asking many questions." I said (this is from the chapter Trust Issues).
"You can speak Russian?"
"It is mandatory that people from the RDAA can speak at least 6 different languages fluently. The languages that every RDAA member needs knows is English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese since it's the most spoken language. Not surprising since China has the highest population. I know 8 languages in total: English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, French, Portugese and Greek." I wonder how many languages Alex knows. Has he just forgotten all the languages that he's learnt? Most likely.
"Not to alarm you guys but the Russians have found the tunnels and are currently coming down here." Lewis said.
"I shall let you guys pass as long as you promise me one thing. Save princess Zaku and bring her down here because I have something to give to her." The Keeper said.
"We promise Keeper, can you block up this tunnel and redirect them?" I asked him. He nodded and we started to run down the tunnel. Alex was Mimi on his back with stone restraints on her hands and ankles. She wasn't struggling which makes me makes me believe what she said before a bit more. Maybe she actually regrets taking on the mission that her dad assigned to her. "Lewis, which way?"
"Straight ahead, there's about a mile left!"
