Chapter 18: Death Lingers

Duncan's POV

"She's infected." What? "I don't mean infected as in bitten by a zombie but infected like your flux buddies series. The aura in her arms is unstable energy that is slowly spreading around her body and will eventually create a bomb. Think of an unstable atom, when an atom becomes unstable it explodes. It's kind of like that but the explosion will be devastating. When did she say that this started happening?"

"3 days ago." Kim's a ticking time bomb...

"If it's spread this much in 3 days then she doesn't have that much longer left. I'm guessing about a week until the energy starts flowing around her uncontrollably." This is so wrong, aura was meant to be your life force and it shouldn't have the power to end your life just like that. Maybe there's a way to let all that energy out. "There have been a few cases where people have lost control of their aura and turn everything into smithereens but no one has managed to save an infected. A lot of research has been put into it but they haven't been able to get anywhere. All of the science victims died and so did a lot of the scientists because it turned out that it was infectious. I'm going to warn you now Duncan, stay away from Kim if you don't want to be infected."

"No, I don't care if she's infected or not. Kim is my friend and I won't abandon her when she is in a time of need. If I was in her position then I would be more than happy to have someone look out for me. Friends stick together." Pina sighed and got up.

"You can keep telling yourself that Duncan, your mouth can say one that but your mind is saying something else. Don't trick yourself Duncan." She got up and started to leave. Her sleeve rolled down as she waved and it revealed a tattoo like thing on her arm. It was a name, Jake Rider (who remembers Jake?). Where have I heard that before? "Stay away from her Duncan, it's for your own good." After that she vanished.

"AAAHHH!!" That came from inside the house! Did someone come in that I didn't see? It doesn't matter, I have to go and check it out! I climbed into the house and tried to listen to where the struggling noise was coming from. "KIM STOP!!" Kim! I opened the door and saw Hannah pinned onto the wall by some sort of glowing purple substance. Kim was in the corner on the other side of the room holding her hand up at Hannah. Is it the 'flux'? "Duncan do something!"

"Right...." What do I do exactly? "Kim, look at me!" She didn't move but kept taring at Hannah. Her eyes were glowing a bright purple and so were her hands and veins. "KIM!" What to do, what to do? I ran in front of her and grabbed her shoulders. "Kim, look at me! Fight the flux and come back to being your old self! You have to remember who you are! Can you hear me?" The purple in her eyes started dimming and her hand lowered. "Kim..." She fell limp into my arms.

"What the hell just happened Duncan?" I gently placed Kim's limp body onto the ground and shrugged at Hannah. "What on earth was that purple stuff and why was her eyes glowing?" The flux?

"Pina told me that Kim is slowly losing control over her aura and eventually, her aura will become completely unstable and she'll turn into a bomb. She said it was an infection of some sorts which means that it can be passed on from one person to another and that there is no cure for it. Pina also said that it was kinda like flux and it takes control over you body." A ticking time bomb. I wonder what Hannah's going to do now? Is she going to avoid her like the plague or try to come up with a solution?

"There has to be a way to slow down the infection and give us more time to find a cure. Duncan, I need you to stay with her for the time being and make sure that she doesn't know about the infection. If she keeps calm then she might not hulk out again and make everyone else suspiscious. I'm going to get more information from Pina and work something out. From now on, you have to be by her side at all times."

"Ok. Do you mind taking watch?" She shook her head and walked out. I have to watch over Kim at all times? I don't know if I can actually handle something like that.

??? POV

This little dear, I wonder how long it'll take for them to find out that she's gone? I can't believe that they were so unobservant! Then again, I did shape shift into her and act like her but that obviously didn't work unless Duncan didn't suspect anything which is completely out of the ordinary... who am I kidding? I better get this young lady prepared for tomorrow, my my I hope they are prepared for the main event. Wonderful, I can't wait to see the fear in their eyes and hear the thumping of their heart get fast and faster. Tomorrow is going to be a wonderful day!
