Fall into the flood

Defense

The team had gathered in the barracks all of them in their armor.

"Well, team the Captain has ordered everyone to get into defensive positions around the base. Greg you will be at the left tower in front of the gates with your rifle, Mitch you will be at the tower on the right manning a turret, Andrea you and Arthur will be with the marines guarding the gate, and I will be with the rest of the marines and the Innies guarding the perimeter." John said reading their orders from a data pad.

"Wait we are giving them guns and expecting them to help us is the captain crazy!" Mitch said questioning their orders.

"Don't worry about it those things took some of their friends to, they should be wanting a little payback. Now everyone get into your positions the enemies estimated arrival time is in 1 hour!" John said motioning for everyone to get into position.

A few minutes later

Every single person who was in or around the base was holding a gun.

They had everyone aiming into the jungle waiting for the enemy to arrive while John lead a convoy of eight Warthogs around the base each with a turret on it.

After making multiple laps John and the convoy were at the back of the base for the sixth time when suddenly the flood had bursted from the tree line at the front.

"They're here swing the hogs back to the front!" John heard one of the marines yell over the comm.

As they drove back around John could see a massive amount of them pushing their way forward with the guns having little effect on their numbers.

The convoy then made a line in front if the gate as the turrets began to open fire on the horde. But as they got closer two of the warthogs driven by some of the Innies broke off trying to flee into the jungle only to be ensnared by them flipping their cars over and grabbing the 6 inside.

"Dang it those cowards." John said under his breath.

They had started to move closer and were getting close to the rest of the hogs.

"Everyone get inside!" John shouted over his comm ordering everyone to retreat.

With Andrea, Arthur, and the marines entering first fallowed by what was left of the convoy. As everyone entered they immediately shut the gates to keep them out. After they shut Captain Myres came out of the command center and walked up to John.

"Lieutenant how long until they get in?" the Captain asked in a serious manner trying to access the situation.

"Sir I would guess about two hours, what is your plan sir?" John asked as prepared for the worse.

"I will try to contact a nearby UNSC frigate to send reinforcements, so until then make this area defendable." The captain ordered as he ran back into the command center.

John had positioned the warthogs to face the gate with each turret ready to fire as well as making sandbag walls with for soldiers to get behind.

"Okay everyone prepare yourselves the enemy will be breaking down the gates soon so everyone be prepared to fire as they break." John yelled over the banging sound coming from the gate.

"Sir what do you want us to do?" Greg asked walking up to him with the rest of the squad.

"Get in defensive positions except you Greg you will be climbing onto the comm tower and try to take as many out as possible." John gave them their orders and watched them get into position as he took out his battle rifle waiting for the flood to break through.
