Kian and I separated at a curb because he had to go to basketball practice. I walked home, with my hands stuck in my pockets. I took out my Valentine's dance ticket and stared down at it. I stopped walking and just stared at the ticket. My anger fully vanished, now I was filled up with worry. What was I supposed to do now? Was I supposed to still take Megan to the dance? How about Reina? Wait... how about if Reina gets invited to the dance by another dude? Goosebumps ran down my back. I gripped the ticket and started to run. My feet hit the pavement ground hard, step-by-step, my breathing getting harder and harder each time. I just had to see Reina.
I stopped running when I got to Reina's house. Still breathing hard, I looked up at Reina's window, the light wasn't on. When I was about to knock the door, just in case, she was home, I noticed someone in the yard, sitting under a tree. I quietly walked to the yard and I realized it was Reina who was sitting by the tree! She was wearing a pink hoodie and a pair of grey sweatpants. She was reading a book and her injured foot was stuck in front of her, with her crutches lying on the grass beside her. I couldn't help but chuckle softly, for some reason she looked a little pathetic in a cute way.
Reina looked up from her book and looked towards me, it seems she heard me chuckle. Reina's eyes widened and she sat up, her cheeks turning a rosy red.
"H-hi, what are you doing here?" she asked.
"Uh, I came here to give you your homework for today," I answered. I didn't come only to give her her homework.
"Oh, thanks!" she said, "You could come in, just open the door latch." I did as I was told and awkwardly placed myself next to her. As I tried to cross my legs, I accidentally hit her injured leg. She winced a little and I started to apologize,
"Jeez, sorry! Are you ok?"
"Ya, I'm fine. It doesn't hurt that bad," she replied, shrugging. She was so cute, the way she tried to seem like she was tough. I couldn't keep my giggle in. Reina made a face at me and punched me lightly on my arm. "What!? Why do you keep laughing at me!?"
"N-nothing!" I said, exhaling. I looked at Reina, and she was smiling a little, I could tell because her little dimples were shown. It has been days since I've seen her dimples! I was relieved and overjoyed, it was back to normal between us!
"So, are you going to give me my homework or what!?" Reina asks.
"Right! Here," I reply, handing her the clear file. She takes the homework out of the clear file and laid it on top of her book as she looked at it. She looks up and asks for my help. So I took out my homework, Spanish textbook, and pencil case. I open my textbook and teach her what we did in Spanish class and she listens to me. I don't know how to explain it, but I felt honored to be teaching her. Reina was listening to every word I was saying and asked questions to me, in other words, it felt as if Reina and I were connecting with a special trust bond. She trusted me and was comprehending every word I said. My heart was bouncing with joy, I liked this. I liked this a lot.
Reina and I had a little homework session in her yard. She asked for a pencil, so I took out the sharpest pencil in my pencil case and handed it to her. We finished our homework together. I helped her with the day's English and Spanish homework and she helped me with Science homework. In between doing our homework, we joked around and chatted. I told Reina about how my Social studies teacher's wig flew off of his head because he was standing in front of the heater. Reina laughed and let out a small snort, which I laughed to and we were rolling on the grass holding our stomachs as we giggled. In the end, it took 2 hours to finish only 3 of our homework. 80% of the time we were just messing around, but I liked it that way. I nearly forgot about the Megan incident, when I saw a slip of pink paper in her hoodie pocket. My smile soon vanished.
"What's that?" I asked, pointing at the paper. Reina placed her hand in her pocket and took out what I was dreading of; a Valentine's dance ticket.
"Oh, this? Um... I got a ticket from Josh," she said putting it back in her pocket.
"W-what'd he say?" I gulped.
"He said that we should go as friends. He gave it to me inside an envelope and dropped it into my locker. It just fluttered out of my locker when I was packing up to go home yesterday after I got injured," she explained.
"Oh," I said, my heart beating rapidly. Did she say yes? I really wanted to know.
"So, are you going to go to the dance?" I asked casually, as hope burned in my heart.
"Umm, I'm not sure yet. I haven't seen Josh ever since," she replied, shrugging.
"Ok," I said, somewhat relieved. I stuck my hands in my pockets and felt my ticket.
"Are you going?" Reina asked. Was I going?
"Umm, I'm not sure yet, either," I answered, faking a smile.
