<OMG, I haven't written in so long. I'm so sorry! I've been pretty busy lately, but I promise, I'll keep on writing~>
The day of the Valentine's dance, has finally come. It was today, after school, at 7 pm. I kinda dreaded it, because I was going with freaking Megan, but I didn't dread too much, after all, Reina was still going to be there! I hung my tuxedo that Megan bought, on my room doorknob and stared at it for a while, before grabbing my bag and heading for school. I just couldn't un-hear Reina's voice saying "tuxedo guy". It just kept ringing in my head and I just smirked at the memory of her cute smile.
When I got to school, everyone was buzzing about the dance. All the girls were squealing and asking each other who their dates were, while the guys just huddled together to avoid any awkwardness from the girls. Then I felt a tug on my sleeve, I turned around and it was Kian. It was kinda still a little awkward whenever I talked to him because I always seemed to be reminded that Kian also likes Reina. It was regular Kian, but he seemed to be slightly desperate-looking compared to usual. He then asked me if I knew who Reina was going to the dance with. I smiled sympathetically, I felt bad for him, to tell him that Reina was going with Josh. I told him and as expected, he seemed a little upset. We just stood there in the middle of the hall for a few minutes awkwardly and then I nudged him and asked him if he was still coming to the dance. He nodded and smiled slyly and said, "I'm not letting Josh off guard too easily!" We chuckled and walked to our homeroom class.
I didn't get a chance to see Reina until lunch break. I saw her walking to the cafeteria, and as I was about to call her, Megan came from nowhere and just slid right in front of me and looked dead into my eyes. Ah geez, I thought.
"Yes?" I asked with an exhausted voice.
"Please tell me you have your tux washed and ironed. And can you maybe take a shower and brush your hair a little thoroughly before the dance, your hair's not the best today. You're going to pick me up at 6:30 pm, right?" she rambled. I was a little startled with her jumble of words.
"Ya ya ya," I answered and just passed her by and jogged to the cafeteria. I wondered if I will still be able to catch Reina. I wanted to know if she read my note. I walked behind her keeping a decent distance between her and me so that she wouldn't think I'm a stalker. In her hand was the pencil case I sneaked my note into, the other day. She must've seen it, I convinced myself. Satisfied, I walked to a table where Kian and all my friends sat, as Reina approached her friends. I glanced towards her one last time before sitting down, and I caught her already looking at me. I was a little surprised to see her staring at me so I just stood there like an idiot. Finally, I raised my hand to wave at her, but before I could, she just looked away. So, I just stood there with my hand raised, my face turned hot. Not because I looked like a dummy in the middle of the cafeteria because Reina was looking at me!
6:37pm, I was literally sprinting to Megan's house. Every step was followed by the click-clock of my shoes. Megan was sure going to be mad. As I ran, I tried to fix my necktie because it was a little wonky-looking. My hair was still pretty wet since I had to take a last minute shower due to Megan's orders. *eye roll* When I got to Megan's house doorstep, I gasped for air and rang the doorbell. After one last gasp of air, I stood up straight and waited to see a raged Megan. The door didn't open, so I reached for the bell again, but then the door swung open. At the door, wasn't Megan, but a person who seemed to be her mother.
"Uh hello. I'm here to pick up Megan for the Valentine's dance," I said managing to a little reassuring smile. Megan's mother looked me up and down with judgy eyes and then said that Megan already left and shut the door.
My jaw dropped open. What!? Megan literally ditched me!! I turned around and started dashing towards the school. She probably left because she didn't want to wait for any longer. Sounds like her. As my wet hair dried in the passing cool wind, I hurried to the school gym. When I got to the gym entrance, there was a huge banner slung across the gym doors, that read "Happy Valentine's Day!" I looked around the outside of the gym for Megan, but all I saw were a few girls in dresses taking a selfie and a couple sitting on a bench. Megan had probably already gone into the gym. This kinda made me feel more at ease, I thought I was going to be monitored and dragged around with Megan the whole dance, but it was so far the opposite of that. I was FREE~!
I was sweating so much, so I decided to head to the bathrooms to wash my face off. I headed to the bathrooms, but since there was a line at the bathrooms closest to the gyms and it was pretty crowded, I headed towards another bathroom. The halls were so empty, I've never been to the school without people in the hallways. It kinda felt weird.
After washing my face, I headed to the gym, but on the way, I spotted Reina. She was standing in front of the gym and she seemed to be waiting for someone. I stood there for a while admiring how she looked. She was wearing the dress I saw her wear at the dress store. A navy dress with a thin gold belt. Her dress nearly touched the ground. Her hair was tied up in a half bun. Her bun was a little lopsided and I imagined her standing in front of her bathroom mirror trying to perfect her bun, with her little concentrating face. It was too cute, I couldn't resist but laugh a little to myself. Her face didn't seem to have a lot of makeup on compared to the other girls with a bunch, but still, I thought she looked the prettiest. She was playing with the tip of her hair and was biting her lips, she looked really nervous.
She found me looking at her and waved a little. I returned to the real world and blushed to the fact that she saw me staring at her. I walked up to her, hoping that I didn't look like a complete mess.
"Are you waiting for someone?" I asked, trying to sound natural. She nodded and answered,
"Yup. My date."
"Right," I said back. There were a few seconds of silence before, she asked where my date was. I just shrugged and said that she's probably in the gym.
"Shouldn't you be with her?" asked Reina in concern.
"She's probably better off without me," I said.
"Oh... you look more handsome than I remembered," she said. My insides felt like they turned upside down. The person I liked just said I looked handsome! (I think) I glanced towards Reina and she was sort of blushing and when she caught me looking at her, she smiled sneakily.
"W-what do you mean, "than I remember"? Don't I always look handsome?" I asked, trying not to seem l was melting inside with her compliment. For a second, I was worried as those words came out. Should I have complimented her back? Then Reina just burst into laughter. I started to laugh too, realizing how pathetic I sounded. After our laughter died down, I started to ramble,
"You look really prettier than I remember too. I-I mean, you always look pretty, but today you look, like, really pretty. In fact, prettier than the others, I think..." I cringed at how lame I sounded. I peered towards Reina and she seemed sort of surprised, but then she smiled the cutest smile ever and said,
"Thank you, Michael,"
At the perfect moment, Josh came running up to us. Darn it!
"Hey, sorry I'm late," he said, panting. He then eyed me and took Reina's hand and looked her into the eyes. "You look really beautiful tonight," he said. Jealousy filled me up to the brim.
Reina smiled and thanked him and they headed in. I followed behind them, but I could assure you, when she smiled at me, she looked a lot cuter than she did when she smiled at Josh.
