Peridot's POV: First Person

Time Skip: 5 months later

I ran my fingers through my hair as I trudged through my closet. My eyes darted around the room, looking for the right pair of shoes.

The tux I was currently wearing ruffled with every step I took. For the last half-hour I had struggled with the bow-tie that was tied around my neck, leaving me even less time to put on some shoes and get out of here.

My mind had run through a plan of action before I even began to gel my hair up. But my plan didn't involve two things - me screwing up the bow-tie and me losing my shit about my shoes.

I was wearing a black tuxedo, which meant my only option was black shoes, and the only black shoes I could find were my vans.

I checked the time on my phone, knowing I was on a time crunch. I only had five minutes to get out of my house, so... the vans would have to do.

Sprinting over to the shoes, I quickly laced them and jumped back up. As I ran by the kitchen I picked up my keys, wallet and flowers and bolted to my parent's Tesla.

I pulled out of my driveway and got onto the road. My mind started to drift off, reminding me of my parents.

Surprise, surprise, I actually saw my parents for more than a few hours over spring break. They decided to take a family vacation in the Bahamas and invited me along, which I happily accepted.

For the first time, I mustered up the courage to come out to my parents. They seemed caught off guard, although that only lasted a few minutes. They were supportive of me, and my mom even asked about Lapis. Although nothing ever lasts, especially with my parents, the feeling of acceptance and importance from them has still not worn off.

It was important to me that they knew that I was with the beautiful Lapis Lazuli. By now, we've been dating for five months, and I found it fit that she should be my date to prom.

Both of our schools were holding a dance, but we couldn't go to Lapis' for obvious reasons. I asked her two weeks ago.

Lapis had asked me not to do anything big, so I didn't. I chuckled at the memory, which was still fresh in my mind.

I struggled to hold a smile in as Lapis groggily came out of my room, wearing my Hamilton hoodie. She rubbed her eyes and sat down at our dinner table.

"So, you're finally up?" I asked, smirking. Lapis shot me a death glare.

Grabbing a plate and a mug, I placed it in front of her. She grabbed the fork I had laid on the plate and took a large bite before taking a sip of coffee from the mug.

I watched her intently as she drank. I had made sure not to fill it up too much, since I didn't want her to not finish it and leave it out.

After we had both finished our breakfasts, I stared at Lapis until she had drained her drink. At first she didn't notice. I almost nudged her before she looked down into the mug and gasped.

"Peri!" Lapis yelled, grinning from ear to ear. "You dork!"

I chuckled. She held up the mug to show me the inside. At the bottom read "PROM?", which I had written on yesterday.

"Is that a yes?" I asked. Lapis snorted.

"Obviously."

It all seemed just wonderful. But everything good comes with a catch. Our catch - Lapis hasn't told her parents about us yet.

Well, she has, in a sense. But she hasn't mentioned that I'm a girl, nor has she mentioned me as a boy. She has been working around with they/them pronouns.
