Lapis' POV: First Person
"That's the price you pay,
Leave behind your heart and cast away,
Just another product of today,
Rather be the hunter than the pray.
AND YOU'RE STANDING ON THE EDGE FACE UP 'CAUSE YOU'RE A NATURAL."
I jolted awake at the sound of screaming in my ears, although I didn't open my eyes. I was tempted to go back asleep until I heard voices talking. Swiftly taking out my earbuds, I stayed still, only barely opening my eyes.
"It was my fault," the tall, pale girl beside me sighed. "I made a huge deal of it."
A creak came from the driver's mirror, signaling a hand had moved it. "C'mon Pearl, it was sorta my fault too."
Pearl sat back into her chair and grimaced. "Still," she responded, looking out of her window. "I took it out of hand."
"I won't deny that," A voice responded. Yep, definitely Peridot's. "But you can't be too harsh on yourself. We all got over it."
Pearl's head turned to look at me. I quickly shut my eyes, praying to god she didn't notice. "What about Lapis?"
I didn't dare open my eyes again once I felt Peridot examine me through her mirror. "I doubt she'd hold a grudge that long. You guys made up, right?"
"Yeah," Pearl said rather uncertainly. "But how would I know? I pretty much attacked her personally. How could she forget that?"
I slightly opened my eyes, and felt relieved when I saw that neither girls were looking at me anymore. "She probably won't, if I know her well enough," Peridot answered. "But she should at least try to forgive you."
Pearl sighed and looked out of her window again. After a few more seconds of silence, she spoke again.
"I'm sorry. And not only for the whole Lapis incident, but also for trying to butt into your relationship," Pearl spilled out anxiously.
Peridot eyed her warily through the driver's mirror. "You're fine."
"I guess it was just," Pearl took in a deep breath and said her next few words quickly. "I was jealous of you two. And not because I still like you, but maybe because I like the... idea of your relationship?"
Peridot's eyes widened. She quickly readjusted the mirror again and stared intently at Pearl. "Woah, what - what do you mean?"
Pearl refused to make eye contact with Peridot. "I thought at first that maybe I was acting this way because I still had feelings for you. But," Pearl glanced towards the seat in front of mine. "but that wasn't it. I guess I just really wanted what you guys had."
Peridot cleared her throat. "With who then?"
"I, uh," Pearl's face turned red. Peridot glanced towards Amethyst, to which Pearl nodded.
"Ah," Peridot responded. "Do you wanna know my opinion on this?"
"Please."
"Well," Peridot stated, "I think you're too scared. You should know that she likes you back. It's way too obvious. But," she put her hand up to signal that she wasn't done. "I also think you lingered on Rose for too long. You shouldn't be afraid with Amethyst, because you actually have a chance with her."
Although it seemed harsh, Peridot's comment seemed to knock sense into Pearl. Her face lit up in realization.
"Oh, my, god." Pearl smacked her seat, almost making me jump. "Peri, you should be a therapist."
