Dylan sat on the couch in front of six standing children, getting ready to introduce themselves.
It had taken a while for Leo to calm everyone down and get them to stop touching Dylan. Leo was right about two things, he did have a lot of siblings and the girls did go gaga over him.
"So let's start with the oldest." Leo said, point to a tall boy on his left.
"Hi Dylan, my name's Christian, but everyone calls me Chris. I just turned 19 last week." Dylan nodded and said hi.
Chris had come back from work a little bit after Dylan and Leo had arrived. Most of the time, Chris was like a third parent in the household.
"OK." Leo pointed to himself bringing some giggles from the younger siblings and a smile from Dylan. "You already know me, but not my age, I'm 16...still. My birthday's in July so I'm one of the youngest."
Leo then pointed to his right, where two strangely identical girls held hands.
"Hi, you kinda already met me, I'm Bella and-"
"My name's Ava. We're both 13." The girl next to Bella interrupted. They were the only ones that didn't have green eyes and no freckles, instead they both had brown eyes. But they still had black hair like everyone else. Bella had her hair cut slightly shorter than Ava.
"We're twins, obviously." They said in unison.
"Stop being freaky!" The little boy next to them shouted. He stood up straighter and faced Dylan. "I'm Mason and I'm 7." He waved cheerfully while smiling from ear to ear.
"Hi." A small girl had been hiding behind Mason. She smiled shyly. "I'm Allison and 4 years old." She scratched her bare arm before gripping onto Mason's trousers.
Dylan stood up and waved to everyone. "Well, hi. I'm Dylan and I'm gonna be 17 in five days."
"Five days!! Why didn't you tell me?" Leo ran up to Dylan and cupped his face with his hands. "We've got to celebrate...with your parents included of course!"
Dylan smiled and shrugged, "My mum's going to Africa for work a day before my birthday. She's an archeologist."
Leo frowned sadly and stared at Dylan with hardly any space between them.
"Ahem." Somebody had cleared their thought behind them. Leo turned around and found Bella and Ava with their arms crossed. "Are we interrupting something?"
"Huh." Both Dylan and Leo seemed confused, until they turned back around to face each other, realizing how close they were. "OH!" They both sprang back from each other. Dylan fell awkwardly on the couch while Leo slipped into Chris.
"Um...well that's a shame," Leo scrambled up and straightened his top, "about your birthday of course!"
Leo laughed nervously and glared at the twins.
Dylan fixed his hair and got up. "Y-yeah, of course."
Everyone heard the door being unlocked, so everyone froze.
"Hello my babies!" A woman came trudging in with many, many shopping bags.
"Hello everyone!" A man followed after her with only 2 bags.
All six kids came running to the pair of shopping bag carriers. Chris was the first to take some bags from the woman.
"Hi Mum, hi Dad." Mason hugged one of his father's legs, while Allison still clung onto Mason's trousers.
"Shame on you dad, making mum carry most of the bags!" Leo scowled at his dad before smiling and taking both of his father's bags.
Dylan watched the whole scene and smiled sadly, if only my life could be like this. Dylan thought to himself, standing and feeling really awkward in the background.
