Why are you telling me goodbye? Aren't you gonna stay the night?

Just as we were lovingly gazing into each other's eyes, the unfortunate sound of a car engine roaring from the front driveway so rudely disrupts us, snapping Lance right out of his trance.

"Oh, shit." He curses, panic in his eyes, as he springs to his feet and rushes to the window. "Shit! Lisa and Sylvio are back from his piano lesson!"

"Lance, what's wrong?" I stand as well and hurry to his side, reaching a hand up to stroke his soft hair in an attempt to calm him. He quickly catches my wrist in his tight grip before looking me firmly in the eye.

"Keith, you have to go." He demands and the stern tone in his voice almost scares me. What's gotten into him all of a sudden? I furrow my eyebrows in both confusion and frustration before taking a single step away from him.

"Why? Why can't I stay longer? Lance, tell me what's the matter?" I insist, eyeing him inquisitively.

"I'm sorry, I just can't let my family see us together." He says as he grabs me by the shoulders and begins guiding me towards the back exit. I quickly shove his hands off me before we reach it and spin around to face him.

"Why not?" I demand, scowling up at him in offense. "What's wrong with us being together?"

"Nothing! Of course, nothing's wrong with it, baby," He assures, momentarily wrapping his arms around me in a comforting manner, which is lovely, of course, but doesn't change the fact that I'm mad at him, "It's just... I don't think they would approve..."

His expression softens as he sorrowfully glances down at his feet and I can feel a sharp pang in my chest at the sight. I turn my gaze towards the ground as well as I ponder over his words, trying my best to understand them. Why wouldn't his family approve? What's wrong with us?

As I mull over my thoughts, I can't help but let my attention get caught by something in the corner of my eye. Huh, that could be useful later.

"Okay," Is all I'm able to say after I pull myself out of thought. I really can't say I understand what he means. I would like to, but all I can do for now is respect his wishes and leave him be.

Hopefully one day I'll be able to meet his family without shame or disapproval. Hopefully one day I could even be a part of his family. After they understand our deep love and affection for each other, they'll come around and welcome me with warm, open arms and joyfully let me in as a member of their big, loving family. Something that I could only dream of having until now. Now, I can actually see it. It's just out of reach, but it's in sight. Maybe, one day, I'll finally be able to obtain what I have longed for for so long now. Maybe one day.

"Thank you, Keith," Lance says, his ocean eyes filling with warmth once again as he smiles at me. I faintly return his smile, but I can only return his gaze for a moment before sadness forces it downwards again.

"Hey," He speaks softly, a gentle hand holding my chin as he guides my eyes back to his. "I love you, okay?"

I can't help but let the corners of my lips curl upwards at his tender words and I can feel a subtle warmth fill my cheeks. "Okay. I love you, too."

His loving eyes only linger on me a moment longer before the sudden sound of the front door swinging open ruins the moment.

"Okay, you have to go now. I'll see you tomorrow." He says in a hushed tone, hurrying me out as he anxiously looks over his shoulder. Before he can completely shove me out the door, I swiftly swipe the house key that I had stopped earlier, helplessly hanging in plain sight off a thumbtack on the bulletin board. How could I resist?

"I love you!" I quickly call out one last time before the door is abruptly slammed closed in front of me.

I stand there for a few moments longer as I hear the house begin to fill with the bubbling sound of a child's exuberant voice, one that sounds just like a miniature Lance, accompanied by the tired but still warm voice of a woman who must be Lance's sister in law. I can't make out what she said, but whatever it was was followed by the euphonious sound of Lance's laughter and my heart ached as I wished I could have still been there to listen to it more closely.

Okay I just want to say I am SO SO sorry for the 10 million years it took me to update this and only for a short chapter, too. Not gonna lie, I was kind of considering just abandoning this story since I'm not as much into VLD anyway, but I recently got inspired for whatever reason (plus, what can I say, as mad as I am at the show itself, I'll always love the characters dearly) so now I (at least plan to) finish it! Feel free to guilt trip me into it if you have to because I actually do really wanna keep this going. Hopefully quarantine will give me more time to work on it. Thanks for being patient!! <3
