When we arrived at our dormitory, we sat together on the plain sofas and chair to match. Violet and Quigley on the far sofa, Klaus and I on the middle sofa and Duncan decided to sit on the chair to match on his own. I did feel bad for him, I know that he had feelings for Violet, but I know he got over her when we thought something had happened to them, it took a lot of time though.
"So, what have we missed?" Klaus asked, looking down at me. His round glasses started slowly slipping down his nose as he stared at me, I released my hand from his and pushed them gently back onto his face, studying each detail as I did, I had missed this face!
"Nothing much, we got a new principal, she's nice..."
"And pretty...well...pretty" Duncan commented. He had picked up a habit of interrupting Quigley when he was talking.
"So, we missed nothing?" Violet asked
"Nope, not really" I replied, tearing my eyes away from Klaus.
I looked around the room and my eyes rested on Violet and Quigley, they were acting like a couple, like something happened between them, a flame being rekindled...they're hiding something from us, and I'll find out.
"Hey, who's up for a game of truth or dare? It's Saturday tomorrow so we don't have classes?" All of my hopes hang in the balance of the answer I'm about to receive from the people around me. Sure. The word echoes around the room as the game takes off.
"Okay, Duncan, truth or dare?" I ask
"Dare!" He shouts standing up.
"Go into my room, and wear one of my dresses for the rest of the game!" I was proud of that one. Duncan practically dragged himself into my room, dragging his feet on the floor the whole way, then emerging a few minutes later wearing a blue knee length dress with short sleeves and a V-neck. I look around and notice that everyone is trying there hardest not to burst into fits of hysterics.
"Beautiful!" I say, after managing to gain a hint of self control.
"Thank you! Now...KLAUS!! Truth or dare?"
Klaus thinks for a moment, obviously weighing out the pros and cons of each option. I always liked the tactical side of him.
"Truth"
"Do you have feelings for Isadora?"
I have never heard a room more silent than it was in the seconds after that question was asked. I could feel my cheeks blush a bright shade I crimson and I looked down in shame. My entire heart hung in the balance of this question! And this isn't even how it's supposed to go! I was supposed to get the truth out of Violet and Quigley, nobody else! My thoughts race quicker than my beating heart and I can hear them both echoing in my head and the silence grows thicker.
"Yes"
Yes? One word, that's all he said. I turned to look at him and saw that his cheeks were flushed with colour and a smile appeared on his face and we made eye contact. The butterflies in my stomach fluttered with joy as we stared at each other. I reached out my hand and held it in his, resting my head on his shoulder. The room was silent once more.
I turned to face the small and quiet crowd who all had looks of both shock and joy. Violet was the first to break the silence that still echoed around the room.
"I think that's really sweet" she said, smiling at the two of us curled on the sofa together.
"I think that that is our sister and the right answer should have been sorry, no!!" Duncan said clenching his fists.
I understood, of course I did, but this was a bit far! After everything we went through together, he became more protective of me. Like I said, I understood, of course I did, but this is a bit far!"Duncan, nothing is going on, he said he liked her, and hasn't acted on it. Worry when that happens." Quigley always looked at the whole picture. Always the one looking at the whole cake and not just the one slice he was given. Me personally, I don't like cake.
Duncan slumped back into the chair to match and sulked in the blue dress all night as the game went on and on into the night.I looked at the clock hung on the boring cream walls. 1:15.
"Guys, we should probably go to bed"
"Agreed, then you can have your stupid, comfortable dress back!"
"Don't worry Duncan, I'm pretty sure you could borrow any of mine or Isadora's dresses anytime you like!" Violet countered, laughing at the end and she made her want into what was now our room. I would have to change the couplet on the door...
We said goodnight to the boys as they made their way to their room it was only next door to ours, but it meant that I had to let go of Klaus' hand."I'll see you in the morning" he said "I promise"
We let go and I threw myself on the bed, facing the ceiling. I lay there, counting the stars above me, did a child live here?! I mean, it didn't bother me, there cute.
"Isadora"
I turned around to look at Violet who was sitting on her bed.
"Yeah?" I asked
"I have two questions, one, please may I borrow some night clothes? My stuff isn't here yet. And two, do you have feelings for Klaus? I didnt get to ask you in truth or dare..."
"Okay, one, yes you may borrow some night clothes, there's some in the top drawer, take your pick. And two, yes. I do have feelings for Klaus. I have since the day I met him. And I always will."
"Hmm, that's cute. But do you want him to ask you out? Like, on a date?"
"Yes"
One word. That's all I said. That's all I needed to say. I needed no explanation, I'm happy now. I have everything that I wanted. A family, friends, a home and Klaus. What could possibly make me so unhappy now? Not even Carmelita Spats could ruin the joy that I felt at that moment. And as I thought about this, I drifted off into an almost peaceful sleep...
