Threats

We headed to the movies, all cramped in the yellow taxi that once belonged to Jacque Snicket. Klaus drove and I sat in the front and Violet sat next to Quigley in the back. Duncan was sat by the window, with Sunny sitting on his lap. The sun shone through the windows as we sat in silence, thinking about all the people who had tried to protect us, but were stopped. Jacque, Olivia, Kit, Dewy, Hector, Larry, our guardians. Everybody. They could have had such wonderful lives, especially Jacque and Olivia. And Kit and Dewy. They had everything taken away from them because of us.

"Issy? Are you alright?" Klaus asked, placing his hand on my shoulder. It had just come to my attention that we weren't moving anymore. I looked around and saw my brothers and the Baudelaire girls outside, waiting to go into the theatre.

"Yeah, I'm fine, let's go"

I left the car and grabbed Klaus' hand. The thought that something bad was going to happen played in my mind as I began to worry. We had been safe before, at home. With Mother and Father. But that was taken away, why shouldn't this? Why should we be allowed to be happy, when we robbed others of their chances.

"Isadora! Do you want popcorn?" Quigley was paying for the treats when I came crashing back to Earth.

"Sorry..." I said, avoiding everyone's eyes, I couldn't let them know what was going on. They would think me paranoid.

"Hey, why don't you guys go ahead, we'll catch up" Klaus suggested, holding onto my hand tighter. Once everyone had left, he crouched so that he could look at me at eye level and asked "What's up? And don't lie, there's obviously something bothering you."
I told him everything. I told him how I felt. I told him how much I missed the people that tried so hard to protect us but were stopped. I told him how I thought it was our fault. And I told him how I didn't feel safe.

"Isadora" Klaus said, wrapping his arms around me and giving me a warm hug "It wasn't your fault, or mine. The only person who owes anyone anything, is Count Olaf. He did this. You don't have to feel guilty. And he's gone, you don't need to be afraid"

"But I do! These people tried to rescue us and we can't say thank you! Or...or..." I tried to finish

"I'm sorry" Klaus said, wrapping his arms tighter around me.

"Yeah, that...and I can't shake the feeling that someone is watching us..." I cried into his shoulder. For a little while before we walked into the theatre.

"Hey you guys! We saved you some popcorn!" Duncan said handing me the large bucket. I looked down and saw only the popcorn cornels left rolling around at the bottom of the empty tub.

"Sunny can have them, we'll go and get some more, anyone else want some?" Quigley asked, he looked at Violet who got up and held onto his hand as they left.

"No order!" Sunny said, looking up at Duncan.

"I know! They asked what we wanted and left before we could answer! Should we go and tell them off?"

"Yes" she said, climbing off of the seat and holding her hand out for Duncan to hold.

"Come on then, are you two coming?" Duncan asked us.

Klaus and I looked at each other and smiled.

"We might as well, we haven't had anything yet!"

We walked through the dim theatre and went to the snack bar, only to find...

*************************************
"Yucky!" Sunny said

"Well..." Klaus said

"Charming..." I said

"Talk about a snack bar!" Duncan shouted.

Violet and Quigley continued to kiss as the four of us stood there, not quite sure what to do. Should we interrupt? Go and sit back down and pretend that we didn't see...this...

"GUYS!!" Duncan shouted "just because this is a snack bar, does not mean that you can become one! Get your tongues out of each other's throats!" Well, looks like we're going to interrupt.

They both turned around slowly, going a bright shade of crimson as the humiliation spread across their faces.

"Um...you guys weren't meant to see that..." Violet muttered. She was clearly embarrassed. I would be.

"Sorry." Quigley spluttered, his hand shot to his long dark hair and he avoided eye contact with everyone.

"No worries. But you have to buy us all a big bucket of popcorn" Klaus laughed nervously.

"Sure thing" Violet replied, looking more at ease

The four of us went to sit back down and Violet and Quigley bought popcorn. We sat in silence. We waited for the movie to start. We waited eagerly for our treats.

"Hey guys, sorry, the line was massive!" Quigley dropped an extra large bucket of popcorn in each of our laps, and him and Violet sat down next to each other.

"So...are you guys together now?" I asked.

"We haven't talked about it" Violet replied as the movie began.

The darkened theatre echoed with the sound of laughter as the movie played on the large screen. People were smiling and the mood was light until it happened...

*************************************

"Hello, Hello, Hello Orphans!"

The voice boomed around the room. And I knew where it am from. The movie stopped and on the screen was the villainous face of Count Olaf. His smile haunted my dreams and his voice echoed in my ears as the words ran through my mind.

"Yes yes I know" the video droned on "you thought I was dead. Well think again Orphans, I am very much alive, and still trying to get my hands onto your extensive fortune. And you can't stop me!"

His evil laugh filled the room with dread and fear as the video stopped and the lights came back on.

"What do we do?" Klaus asked, holding very tightly onto my hand.

"Make our way back to school and tell Principal Marley I suppose, it could just be a hoax. So there's not really much we can do at the moment." Violet picked up Sunny and held onto Quigley's hand.

We made our way to the Snicket taxi and made our way back to Prufrock Prep in absolute silence. What are we going to do...?
