GRACIE HAD STAYED IN THE SAME WHITE rooms of the skybox all her life except for one day when she was pulled out of her familiar cell and put in another all the grown ups saying it was important for her to have some sort of friend.

That's when she met Harold.

⚜️

Gracie huffed as she stared at her new surroundings, the washed white walls similar to the ones she was used to yet different.

Her eyes scanned around the room until they landed on a boy her age sitting on a bed, his eyes clashing with hers, his face stoic and his posture rigid.

Mustering her non- existent confidence Gracie walked over to her bed "Hi, I'm Gracie it's nice to meet you" The boy didn't even acknowledge her as he kept looking at the blank wall, after a long while he spoke. His voice was cold as his expression as he spoke monotonously "I would say the same thing back but I can't"

Gracie looked at the boy curiously "Why is that"
"I'm sociopath"
"Oh"

And with that the boy climbed off the bed and walked to the other side of the room where another bed lay, he climbed in a shut his eyes.

Leaving Gracie alone with her thoughts.

⚜️

Gracie woke up determined as she longed to have a proper conversation with the boy she had met. So she sat on his bed and stared at him with her big ocean eyes "Wake up, boy"

The boy slowly lifted the lids of his eyes as he stared at the younger girl before him and for a second Gracie could see his mask slip and an amused smirk made his way up to his plump lips.

Gracie grabbed the boy's hand and pulled him out of the bed, she sat on the ground in the middle of the large space they had "I want to get to know you"

The boy raised an eyebrow at the girl silently asking if she was serious but Gracie's serious expression didn't falter so the boy took in a deep sigh and began his depressing life story "My name is Harold Ryan and I'm a sociopath, I killed my pathetic mother because she was whoring around after the death of my father. The doctors around here said I must be a sociopath if I killed my mother and felt no regret."

Gracie let out a small whistle as she stared curiously at the boy in front of her "Damn..."
Harold didn't say anything but Gracie swore she saw a flicker of proudness in his eyes as he explained his story as if he was proud of the crimes he committed.

The two sat in silence for a while before Gracie decided to break it "I killed my mom too.." Harold didn't say anything but raised his eyebrow again urging the small blonde to go on.

But Gracie didn't elaborate she simply let out a small sigh as she gave Harold a smile and grabbed his cold hand, the boy narrowed his forest green eyes at their intertwined hands but made no movement to release them "I don't think your a bad guy Harold. I think you just forgot how to be happy and I'm going to help you! I'm not giving up on you Harold. Giving up is not in my dictionary"

Harold sighed again as he removed his eyes from her and stared at the wall once more however this time there was slight pink on his cheeks "I guess I need to get you a new dictionary"

But underneath the boys mask he grinned.

⚜️

From that day the two had become closer and Gracie was gently pushing Harold's mask off. One particular day Gracie caught a cold and Harold decided to look after her.

Gracie opened her eyes to see Harold raising a wet rag to her burning forehead "Aww Harry you care!" And for once in his life Harold smiled softly at the girl beneath him "I do.. I care.. Thank you Mary-Grace"  His voice was scratchy as if he had spoken in a long time and he kept refusing to make eye contact with Gracie.

By the time he finally did he saw Gracie staring at him with a large smile on her lips, he groaned but his lips twitched upwards slightly "It hurts.."

Gracie's smile immediately slipped as she stared at Harold with concern heavily plastered on her face "What's wrong Harry!"
"You're so bright.. It hurts" he said in his normal slow and monotonous voice yet this time there was a hint of teasing in his voice and an ounce of love in his eyes

⚜️

The next day the guards had come to take Gracie back to her room, the girl struggled and cried eager not to leave the boy she had grown close with, today was supposed to be the day.

But at last, all her efforts where thwarted as the guards removed her and placed her back into her original cell.

Leaving Harold behind with a broken heart and a broken mask.

⚜️

Harold sat on his bed as he stared blankly at the wall in front of him, yet he didn't seem to be satisfied like he used to. He felt bored

Looking around the room he came across a piece of paper that Gracie must have left upon her departure.

DO YOU WANT TO BE MY FRIEND

YES OR NO

A single tear made its way down Harold's face as he thought of the girl that had taught him how to feel.
