Hae was let into the enclosure with the help of Jayden, his dark orbs followed her as she meandered around, smiling to himself when her figure stiffened, a sound of curious noises echoed inside as they got louder, the same human child-sized creature from before now in front of her, its bird-like eyes staring up at her, making little noises; a mixture of chirps and other squeaky noises coming from it as it observed her. She nervously looked back at Jayden who was watching her also, squatting down by the creature after Jayden nodded in approval.
"Hi, little one~" Hae cooed softly, slowly reaching her hand out, a small chunk of raw meat on her palm, a clear glove over her hand for safety. A smile appeared across her lips as the creature quickly accepted the piece, a pleasing chirp coming from the reptile when the female smiled more, a soft giggle leaving the creature and Jayden in shock, in love with her happiness. To her surprise, the small creature butted its head against her hand, wagging its tail like a happy puppy to see its owner.
"He likes you." Jayden suddenly said, "Our scientists made most of their environment to their exact taste, so they've been very happy with what they were given. Guess it's their way of thanking us."
"What about the others? They like to travel and hunt in packs. . ." Hae played with the creature, hissing in pain when she noticed he playfully scratched her, holding her right arm.
"Actually I was about to warn you about that. There's six of them in here, and they'll nibble and scratch you a lot. Like cats, we noticed they like to mark their territory. So as their new alpha, be ready for a lot of that." Jayden said nonchalantly, watching your jaw drop in shock, preparing for the many questions that she'd fire at him.
"Wait wait wait wait wait wait. What did you just say?" The female asked with wide eyes, "I- I'm their new alpha?
"They didn't like their old alpha much. Especially since he got another position." Jayden said with a sigh, watching her tilt her head in confused curiosity, her hair shifting to the side also. "It was me." He admitted, watching you freeze as he showed his forearms, very similar scars as the ones she'd receive very soon.
"It was you? What are you doing now?"
"I work with our Saurophaganax. A rare gem if you ask me.
"Whoa. . . It really is. Is it nice?"
"She's a little bitchy here and there, but if she's not feeling up to something then we just leave her to give her space. She also despises visitors, so before you ask if we can see her, the answer is no. Unless you'd like to die this early.
"Uhh no that's okay, I'd like to live. . ."
Jayden chuckled softly, "What I thought."
"So how long have you been working here?" Hae asked, now sitting on the dirt of the enclosure, ignoring her bleeding arm.
"This park has been running smoothly for seven years, and I've been here for six." He watched her stop again, looking at him with wide eyes.
"Wait seriously?! Six years?!" Hae explained with shock, even more, when he nodded.
"Yup. Though this year that could change. Who knows."
"Wow. . ."
"You get used to it after a while, once you know the basics of survival, it's pretty easy to get the hang of." He shrugged, "Although, maybe it's just me. I don't know how you'll do, but I can tell you that there is a possibility you won't get off this damned island. If you do, cover your wounds and take me with you. This island has been driving me crazy but they won't let me go. If a newbie like you gets hurt, then maybe you can find a way to make them let me go", he had a slight snarl to his tone, Hae's body tensed from his sudden change in tone. He was right though, and his scars were perfect proof of that.
"I'll. . .I'll see what I can do. But that doesn't mean yes, and it also doesn't mean I certainly won't try. . ." She began to feel guilty for letting her say such a thing, but this was her dream, she needed to put in a lot of effort if she wanted to live, get the money she was promised, and now try to save him.
"I won't sugar coat anything since that's not what I do, but just try to focus on your job. You have a goal now that you're here, so we'll need your help. It'll make escaping a bit easier."
"You're more of a salt person I take it?"
"Corre- wait how'd you know?"
"Lucky guess", Hae sheepishly grinned, Jayden rolling his eyes in the same playful way once realizing you were playing along with his same level of sarcasm.
"Get to work, the manager will be walking around soon and the last thing he wants to see is his employees fooling around."
"Alright. Enjoy your time in the lab!", Hae smiled with a wave, "Tell Mr. Wu I said hello!"
It was at that moment everything froze. He stopped dead in his tracks, turning his head and giving you a side-eye while doing so. She froze once again, nervously gulping under his very intimidating gaze."How do you know Wu?" He asked, with a deepened voice, almost as if he was taken over.
She needed to come up with something; anything to get rid of that sinister side-eye of his."I've seen the Jurassic Park movies. . ." Honestly, it was probably the biggest mistake she ever made as she watched him inch towards her. His hands were tightly clenched fists, white knuckles too visible. Her palms were sweaty, and the back of her neck began to itch from the sweat trickling down, this time from fear
"You never. . .", He started as he grabbed the sweat-drenched collar of her black plaid shirt, "You never bring up his name around me. Understand?" His voice was deep, and the glare in his dark, black orbs stared into her soul, ready to steal it. Or so it seemed. Her head shook when she tried to nod, desperately trying to look away, his forceful gaze made it too difficult.
The tension in the air was starting to become suffocating, her breath ragged with fear and adrenaline from the sudden scare, which was probably the only thing keeping her on her feet. Jayden noticed this, which made him let go of the collar of her shirt, never losing the anger-filled look in his eyes."Sorry, I just hate him. . . Every time I hear someone say his name, I get upset. I hate being reminded of his mistakes, and it pisses me off, as you can tell." Jayden's voice was softer now, his eyes drifted away from hers, his black orbs once filled with anger now filled with shame, having no intention of scaring her out of her job, even if he was human and not a dinosaur.
"Believe it or not, I understand." She replied with a tender smile, his gaze fixated on her this time with confusion. "I'm like that with my dad." She continued, the smile plastered onto her lips looking more genuine even if her eyes didn't match, which he noticed. This topic wasn't comfortable for either of them, but still was going to be spoken about.
"Oh. . . I won't ask then. . ." At this point, it almost seemed akward for the duo, since they began to talk about family members they weren't the closest with, and hated to talk about.
"It's fine. . . It's all in the past anyway." Hae smiled again, a reassuring hand gently placed on the male's shoulder, her eyes starting to match her smile. Jayden didn't want to admit it, but she was right.
"I'm sorry about lashing out like that. . . It wasn't professional of me. . ."
"Hey, it's okay. And you can stop apologizing, I've already accepted it. Having hatred towards someone is normal." She spoke with a softened expression her hand now on his back, such a sweet and forgiving smile on her fairly soft-looking peachy lips. How could he stay mad at possibly the only person who understands him?
"Thanks....." His eyes drifted away, turning so she lowered her hand back down to her side. "I should get going." He stuttered slightly, flustered for the first time in years.
"I'll take good care of them, don't you worry." She reassured, ignoring her cheeks that lit up with heat and slight color, completely thrown off guard by his smile which he showed her for the first time, and it was perfect. Genuine and caring. He began to walk off, his smile growing as he walked further, sighing in relief as his cheeks finally turned a bloody red, a hand over his racing heart. This wasn't part of the plan.
As for Hae, she loved the fact that she not only made him smile for the first time but also learned a very important lesson.
