Jayden was patiently waiting for Hae as promised since she seemed so thrilled to meet the singular horned lizard. She came out with her hair clipped back, visibly excited to meet the creature. Jayden couldn't fight his small smile, glad to see her so thrilled."Let's go see this Cerato!" Hae happily cried, letting out a giggle when the boy looked away to smile more, not wanting her to see.
"Alright, alright, calm down..." He playfully commanded, keeping his small smile even when she did look.
"Woooooow look who's smiling~" Hae dramatically gasped, wondering if she was the reason he was smiling so much, still playing it off regardless, "Did something happen?~"
Jayden shook his head, trying to forget the events from the day before, mainly the time he spent with her, even if he had a small breakdown."Nah." He said, leading the way to the paddock.
"You sure? You know you can talk to me. . ." Hae partially mumbled as she scanned the area with her eyes, making sure to learn the area.
"I know. I appreciate the offer." Jayden acknowledged with a slow nod.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" Hae asked as she felt her muscles slowly begin to tense, not appreciating the ominously shady surroundings placed inside the enclosure.
"Yeah. The reason it looks like this is because some Ceratos prefer forests. We always try to keep them as comfortable as we can." Jayden shrugged while scanning his id, glancing back at the nervous female.
"Right. . ." Hae mumbled while following Jayden, staying closer than before as her fear began to rise the further they got. It wasn't the fear of the dinosaur, rather the fear of something bad was bound to happen. She didn't know what it was, but it really made her stomach turn.
"Smells funny..." She mumbled, occasionally holding her breath to hold back the nauseous feeling she got from the smell, not used to this kind of stench.
"Just a feeder. We give them live bait, so they can enjoy the hunt." Jayden remarked, while walking up to a feeder, "See?", he glanced at her, showing her the said dispenser that was currently closed.
"Oh. . ." She quickly glanced at the feeder, scattered pieces of a large carcass, dried blood stains on and around it. Looking away, she sighed in relief as her food went back down, relieved it never came up.
"There's 2 in here. Once you gain one's trust, the other will trust you as well." Jayden said, looking at the feeder then glancing at the trees; watching the leaves flow in the light breeze.
"Are. . . You sure?" Hae was hesitant on the question, trying to look elsewhere that wasn't either piles of dung, blood stained shrubs, or pieces of a rotting carcass. Why do these things look a lot scarier?
"Yes, they're siblings. We keep a close eye on the-" Jayden snapped his mouth shut the second he heard an audible roar, looking down at the shorter female now clinging to his arm, feeling her hands trembling with fear.
That sounds like a victory cry.... Hae noted, her amber eyes darting around for any visible source.
"S- Stay here. I'll go see what it is. . ." She spoke rather calmly, trying to dismiss her heartbeat echoing in her ears as she let go of Jayden's arm, slowly and quietly stepping in the direction of the loud roars.
"Are you insane?!" Jayden whisper-yelled, watching the girl with wide eyes. Curiosity is definitely going to kill that cat.
"I'll be fine, just stay here. . ." Hae whispered back at him, lowering onto herself into a military crawl, quietly inching herself towards the beast on her forearms, not even thinking about how badly this would hurt once the adrenaline wore off.
She can't be serious. . . Jayden was already thinking of ways to scold her, if and when she came back. He thought she was completely lacking sense, or may be onto something interesting.
A grayish foot with three toes and claws uncurled as it confirmed its step, causing Hae to freeze in place. Unlike the t rex, the Ceratosaurus didn't lose its sight if something wasn't moving. Hae's damp hair flowed behind her hair as her head slowly moved upwards, unable to control the shaking this time, her breathing steadily increasing when it lowered its head, its eyes locking with a piece of meat right next to her.
No way...... That's-! Hae's thoughts were cut off once she felt the puff of air from its nostrils as it sniffed her, starting with her feet and finishing with her head. Attempting to stop her shaking, she tried to lock eyes with the reptile, unable to do so since her fear kept her in place. The girl fought back a nervous whimper when she heard the Cerato open its mouth, Hae trying desperately to look for it, only to realize it was above her instead.
I can't move. . .
The girl flinched when a claw was stabbed into the soil centimeters from her face, her pulse audible in her ears, this time louder than before. Her skin was covered with sweat; from the heat and terror, and she so badly wanted to wipe it. If she did, her chances of dying on the spot would skyrocket. She watched the claw dig out from the soil, her shaky head making it difficult to watch where the claw went. That could mean one of two things.
Wh- What is it doi-
Hae gasped from the sharp pain in her right calf, her anxiety of death making it extremely challenging to look back at the now called monster, knowing oh too well that the wound would leave her leg covered in blood. She winced when it removed its claw, her eyes darting around to try and find a safer spot to get up to find or yell for Jayden, the pain shooting up her leg making an escape pointless. Which meant one thing.
It was beginning to eat her.
"Hae!" Jayden cried, frantically running in her direction, the ash haired girl only able to make out his voice; her eyes closing once again as the pain became overwhelming.
There's no guaranteed possibility of her or him making it out of this enclosure alive. And that Ceratosaurus would make sure of it.
