The large creature stood there, eyeing them both like its next meal, which probably wasn't a surprise. Hae glanced at Jayden, her body tense as she watched him slowly reach for a gun, looking back at the dino who kept its eyes on her the entire time.He slowly moved towards the rifle, freezing when the creature shifted its gaze from her to him, debating on who should be eaten first. Jayden's eyes were focused on the oversized reptile as it watched him too, wondering what he was doing. It shifted its gaze back to the frozen girl, tears in her eyes as if she already knew where this was going.
Life or death Jayden. You either both live and kill the dinosaur or do nothing as the dinosaur eats you. Jayden was too stubborn to let both of you die; as Hae had to return home and he had a revenge to get. He read the look in Hae's eyes as she stayed in place, knowing this was the least he could do for her. He guessed she'd never see a dinosaur, one of her favorites, die before her. Yet he refused to let it kill her. Got it. In one swift movement, Jayden loaded the gun and fired at the creature's head, watching Hae visibly flinch. But it wasn't enough. The Gigantosaurus roared in agony, its tail lashing as it began to go on a rampage, Jayden ducking underneath, hissing in pain as glass shards dug into his arms and the nape of his neck.
"Run!" Jayden cried, pushing her away to get a head start, knowing that her wound would hold her back.
"What about you?!"
"Don't worry about me, just run!" He yelled, Hae nodding as she scrambled to her feet, making it out safely. Please make it out... She thought tears stinging in her eyes once again, blurring her range of vision. Gunshots echoed for a few seconds, the abrupt stop causing Hae to turn around and rush back, hiding as the Giganotosaurus walked right past her, its snout covered in blood.
"Jayden!" She yelped, making her way back to the blonde fighting to keep himself sitting up, his hand over his thigh, his leg completely gone.
"Oh my god. . ." She nearly whispered, voice shaky from running and now crying.
"I'll be fine, just go on without me. . ." Jayden looked up at the worried female, his eyes struggling to stay open from the pain and feeling of dizziness due to the rapid loss of blood from his leg. He kept his eyes just a tiny bit bright for her, relieved yet upset she came back despite his orders. "Just go. Forget about me." He whispered, using the very little strength he had left to wipe her tears.
"Look at you. . .How can I leave you like this?!" Hae's voice cracked as she yelled back to him, unable to see her only friend here die before her, the onslaught of tears making her vision difficult, to begin with.
"You'll have to. Don't drag me along because I'm not going to live, but I know you can. So go." Those words hurt her more with each unsteady breath he took, her eyes closing as she grabbed his blood-stained hand, trying so hard to deny he was right. He won't make it out, and they both know it.
"I'll watch over you, I promise." He whispered, watching her head leaning into his chest, listening to his last heartbeats.
"You better." She mumbled, watching her broken figure shake, he carefully reached his hand to place it on her head, tears forming in his eyes also, feeling guilty for leaving her in such a painful way. You whimpered through tears.
"Thank you. . ." Hae's voice was muffled as she sobbed, "for everything. . ."
Hearing those words, his heart skipped a beat, quite literally, but his expression grew into a small smile.
"Right back at ya."
There was a silence before she decided to get up and leave him. She shook her head to reduce the temptation to look back, freezing once again once she heard him say her name for possibly the last time.
