Is this a date? Oh god it's a date, no wait he doesn't even like me. No, why would I care? It's not like I like him. Pff, please.
Lance kept pondering. He shook it off, he looked out of the window of Keith's car. "Yo, mullet, are you gay?" Lance asked suddenly. Keith almost choke on his energy drink.
"Sorry, what?" He looked at Lance, but then to the road once more.
"Yeah well, first you've got a mullet and that must mean something, the song choice, and I don't know my gaydar is marking. Lance said rubbing his chin looking at the horizon as if he was marking off an imaginary list.
"What song even is that?" Lance looked at Keith questioning the young man's choices.
Keith almost let out a sigh of relief it's because of stupid reasons and not because he's been caught looking at Lance, or his possible small crush. "Well, I find it rude you are assuming I am because of these unjustified reasons"
Lance shook his head, "No, I'm not assuming, I'm asking so I won't assume anything" Keith simply said "touché" and then continued "the song is called 'I need your lovin' by Teena Marie for your information, I like the oldies" Keith smiled to himself and moved to the rhythm of the song. The tan boy could only smile at this, he found it way too adorable. He pulled out his phone and took a picture. Well, plenty of pictures. "Hey! delete those" Keith threw his arm Lance's way just so Lance could catch it and he held it there for a moment, "there is absolutely no way, this is too good not to have" Lance grinned at the pictures on the screen.
Feeling his cheeks warm up, Mullet looked away. To the road, anywhere else. A smile tugged on his lips.
"So what are you hungry for?" Keith later interrupted the song. Seemingly lost in thought Lance didn't answer, Keith, frowned a little, he didn't know Lance all that well but he knew something was up, although he was joking about it his act really was off. He made a few turns and parked at a Chinese buffet. Lance looked at the restaurant wide-eyed, "no way" his ocean blue eyes shifted to Keith's darker ones said boy nodded, "Yep, we're going to pig out" this made the tan boy grin. Good, at least he can smile, thought Keith.
They got out of the red car and enter the gastronomic heaven.
After having eaten possibly too much our pair exited not nearly as quick as they entered the establishment, the cooks probably thanking whatever forces brought them to a halt. On their way out a flower lady with couple arrangements stopped them and offered her hearts of chocolate that brought a pretty flower.
"No, uh, no we're not a couple," Keith said hastily shaking his head quickly, he felt a blush creep up on him. The speed with which Keith answered the elder woman kind of hurt him, but there wasn't a reason why it would, Lance shook the thought away and smiled kindly at the lady. "I'll buy some anyway," Taking out the amount he glanced at Keith who wore a puzzled look "Dessert" Lance answered the silent question. Giving his thanks they left.
"Where to now?" Lance asked trying to move past whatever just happened. "Not sure" Keith answered starting up the car, then it came to Lance, the beach! "I know, let's go to the coast" Keith looked at Lance in disbelief but shrugged and went along with it. "Isn't it a bit sudden?" Keith asked, not that he minded, but he had not intended for this at all. "Well, i suppose so but it doesnt matter does it?" then Lance smirked "You got a curfew or something?"
A scoff in return was all he got. This ticked Lance off a bit, he enjoyed getting a reaction out of Keith. Getting little to none didn't please him at all.
"You need a tan, Keithy boy" Lance said, as if he were older than his companion. Keith glanced over with a bemused look, "Oh? And how do you propose to fix that problem if it's already evening and the sun won't really have a tanning effect at this hour." This took lance off guard, Keith was right. He didn't think this through.
" I never specified when" Lance quickly replied, trying to find his footing once more. "Right, whatever you say, Lancey"
Lance couldn't help but smile.
Nearly half an hour passes by and Lance did not hesitate in asking "Are we there yet?" He looked out expectantly, but there was no sign of any beach anywhere. "Keeeith" Lance whined. Keith took a breath in, it's okay. It's fine, he has tolerance to spare.
"Keeiiitthhh" Lance continued to moan out Keith's name, "how much longerr" Lance was second to none when he behaved like a brat.
The car pulled over to the side, Keith turned the cherry red vehicle off.
He spun to his side, looking straight at Lance. "If you don't fucking stop, I swear I don't know what I'll do, but I'll do it" Keith warned, took a breath in. Exhaled, and turned the car on once more and kept driving.
All the while Lance, oh, Lance.
He struggled to contain his laughter. He wouldn't admit it, well maybe he will to Hunk or even his brother later, but angry Keith nothing short of hot. And Lance liked it.
When they got to the beach the sun was already half set, the sky tinted shades of pink, orange, and blue. Both of them sat side by side on the sand, Lance took his shoes off to feel the moist sand. Keith followed suit.
Bringing out the chocolates, Lance offered Keith some but he hesitated. Lance looked at him puzzled and looked at the box to see if there was anything out of place. Seeing that nothing was amiss he looked at Keith once more, the silent question lingering.
"These are romantic chocolates, at a beach, with the sunset in front of us" Lance was waiting for the part that made everything Keith was saying make sense. Seeing that Lance wasn't understanding what he meant he only sighed. "Never mind it, Lance" Keith finished quietly. Grabbing one single chocolate and eating it, not looking at Lance properly again for the rest of the evening.
