On the way to the car, I was completely quiet and extremely slow. I was in extreme pain causing some of my slowness, but I was also in another world. My mother and my aunt gave me my silence some of the way home. I knew it would not last but they was enjoying singing their older music in very off beat notes and laughing about how terrible they sounded as well as reminiscing on old times.
Half way home they turned down the radio and my mother turned to face me.
"Wanna talk about it?" She asked grinning with a cantankerous expression on her face.
"I don't know how all of that happen." is all I could get to come out. I was still mesmerized in the past moments of his soft lips meeting mine. It dawned on me that my father would not approve of any of this. But some how this more laid back mother that was before me grinning like a Cheshire Cat could possibly smooth the edges for me. Or at least I had hope.
" I remember my first kiss." My Aunt Trudy started to recall her past love life.
" I was 16 years old. Which was just a short time ago." She giggled at her own joke. My mother sneered and I did a small giggle.
"Anyways, I was a junior in high school and Mark Towsman had been chasing me since junior high school. Of coarse he had a face full of acne and bad breath so I always avoided him when able to. But he came into one of my junior classes and had some how managed to clear his face. He had a new hair cut and looked totally different, and rather good I might add. He of coarse sat right beside me and gave me the biggest boyish grin. I had to do a double take to figure out he was the same guy. Needless to say he asked me out and I pretended to be reluctant and finally agreed. He took me out for pizza and a movie. When he dropped me off he laid one on my lips before I could get out of the car. He said he had waited way too long to do that. All I could think about was he may have changed his looks but he still had bad breath and a bad attitude to match." Recalled my aunt. We all laughed.
"What about you Missy?" My Aunt Trudy coaxed.
"Ah now no one wants to hear about that." My mother said shyly.
"Oh come on Missy. We know it happened. Lighten up." Aunt Trudy pried.
"Well believe it or not it was with your father . I know it's not as extravagant as Trudy's tale, and it may sound a bit cliche but it's true. I actually had a huge crush on your father's friend. But he was so self absorbed and always chasing cheerleaders that he did not know I existed. I was stealing glances at your fathers friend one day in class, and your father caught me looking that direction. Only he thought I was stealing glances at him. So one thing lead to another and before long we was dating. He was a total gentleman. He gave me my first kiss after prom. I just got lucky I guess. He is such a good husband and father that sometimes I take for granted how blessed we really are." my mother said wiping at the corner of her eye. I started to feel a little guilty. Perhaps everything that happened with Tristen was a little fast paced. I reached for my mothers shoulder to reassure her I agreed and admired her for sharing. Aunt Trudy got quiet for a moment as well.
"Daisy, you are growing up. You have always been a beautiful young lady, but now you show you also believe in yourself and that makes you that much more beautiful. Women should always carry confidence it makes them so much more attractive. This is just the beginning of the rest of your life. I won't deny I never thought all of this would happen when I planned it. You grew wings and floated right off. You didn't even make it from the parking lot." My mother giggled. We all returned the giggle.
"Truth is I don't know what to tell your father. You have always been daddy's little girl." Sighed my mother.
"Daisy, I have to hand it to you. You scored a hot one." My aunt Trudy said laughing. My mother playfully swatted at my aunt. I just smiled. I remembered that I had most of Aunt Trudy's money left and I dug it out of my purse and passed the envelope up front. My aunt was surprised to see it. "You was suppose to spend it." she chuckled." I thought you earned it after our little test." We all smiled. The rest of the trip home I sat reliving Tristen's amazing eyes and his sweet, and soft lips. I had gotten past worrying about how I would do when I started back to school. I was now mesmerized by Tristen.
