I showed no remorse nor victory as I approached my last class. I did not even care how many stares that I may have gotten after my encounter with the queen of snobs. I trotted along as if nothing had happen. Adrianna just walked along side of me in silence. I suppose she was giving me space to restore my real personality and to cool down.
Adrianna walked into her class and gave a small wave. She never mentioned if I should wait on her for bus load. I assumed I should because I was willing to admit that I needed a friend to vent to.
My mind was a million miles from history. Mr. Nelson was a great teacher but I was not able to focus on his words. I almost forgot my name during roll call. He repeated it three times before I realized it was my name. I had a few stares. The looks would have meant something to me earlier in the day when I could break down if they was impressed by my changes or just thought I was as weird as ever. I didn't care at the moment.
My heart was pounding and my head was spinning. I started second guessing myself. I really did not handle the matter very lady like. I questioned if I was indeed any better than Danica? Our behavior was equally uncalled for. I did not feel guilty was the thing. I felt good. I had a sense of relief.
I only wished that the snobs of the world did not have to be such bullies. Danica was so quick to judge me because I admired her bedroom. Technically it was her mom that did the decorating. Danica only enjoyed what her mom did for her. She would just accuse me of living in an unhappy home or declare I was crushing on her mom. She had such a twisted mind. She would always be expected to be served fine wines, while girls like me went out and picked the berries. Did that make me weird?
I continued over thinking all of her infuriating words. I knew it was not over. I tried to focus on the class. I was doing no good to myself dwelling on her mind games. I took a deep breath and blocked her out of my thoughts. Mr. Nelson started signing out books. He joked around about future assignments and how we would be quizzed through role playing what we read. At least I hoped he was kidding. The class time was running out, so he began assigning lockers out to us.
I could see other class men also circulating the halls in search of their lockers.
I managed a top locker. I was pleased. I began loading my books inside. I started closing my door when Adrianna appeared beside me smiling.
"I got a top locker too!" She said happily. I knew it was a luxury, but I was confused why it was so meaningful to her. I gave her a questionable look.
"I have never had a top locker." She explained not losing her smile. I returned her smile to be supportive.
"I am glad the day is almost over. Are you going to meet me for bus load?" Adrianna asked in a more serious tone.
"I will be more than happy to." I answered smiling.
"Good. Are you ok?" She asked showing concern.
"Yeah. I will be." I said smiling. I did not want to spoil her happiness with my anger issues. She nodded and flashed a smile.
"Ok. I will wait for you here after class." She said more seriously. I nodded in agreement and we both went back to class.
Five minutes later, the bell sounded for bus load. Most of my classmates left on last bell because they drove or was riding home with someone who could drive. I knew I would be noticed leaving for bus load. I got up and gave no eye contact with anyone, considering I was the only one who left the class.
Adrianna stood by my locker as she had said she would. I smiled at her. She was happy the day was over. I too was relieved.
"When my uncle brings me my car, I will give you lift to school and to home." She said with hope that her car would arrive soon. I smiled.
"That would be great." I said encouraging the idea. We started walking to the gym where we waited for bus loading.
When we arrived, it was quiet chaotic with underclass men trying to figure out where they was going. I knew where to go considering there was only a handful of seniors who actually rode the bus home.
The final bell sounded as we waited for the teachers to get everything under control. The remaining seniors came barreling down the stairs. One of the first few was Danica and her followers. I let out a loud grimace. Adrianna looked to see what caused my sudden grumble. She shook her head with disapproval.
"Here you go again." She said with a loud pity sigh. I was clinching my hands into fists. She patted my shoulder for support.
"Why does she like causing you so much grief?" Adrianna asked shaking her head with more disproval.
"Who knows? It makes her feel inferior and important I suppose." I answered. I knew Danica would see me and want to finish what she started, and this time she would try harder to make me look bad.
"Look girls, Daisy is riding the bus home. What's wrong Daisy? Mommy and Daddy haven't found you a car the same as mine?" She said laughing at her own snide remark. I shrugged my shoulders.
"Yeah it's hard to find a broom just like the one you have to ride." I retaliated back. She quickly lost her smile.
"You just think you are so funny don't you? I find everything about you defensive. Was you so insecure of me that you had to diet and lose weight to be more like me? I seen you a couple of times looking at us through your window. You are a creeper!" She hastily retorted back at me.
"You so caught me. I can't believe you figured out my master plan. I have no function on my own unless I dictate it from you. Thats why you had your little wanna be's hanging with you, admiring you, and fawning over you. I had a hot boy to entertain me, and to admire me. I wonder who the creeper is now?" I said with a stern expression on my face. I heard someone fake cough "Lesbian" and there was a small crowd of laughter. Danica's face turned crimson red. She just got owned.
"Come on girls, let this skank ride the big yellow bus home." Was all she could come back with. Molly and Darcy stood there not following their queen.
"Let's go!" She demanded. They continued to stand.
"Fine, you can be creepers like Daisy is!" She yelled and started walking by herself to her car. As she stormed off stomping, the heel on her shoe broke, twisting her ankle, and causing her to fall. She let out a loud wail of pain. The gym thundered with laughter.
She regained her footing, and walked away appalled carrying one shoe, and walking with one heel. She favored Quasimodo with her unbalanced walk.
When she was out of sight, Adrianna applauded me. I smiled and let out a sigh of relief. Our feud had finally ended, and I had won. I didn't feel victorious. I just felt relieved.
Molly and Darcy was on their cellphones catching rides from someone else. They looked embarressed. I had no sympathy. I was certain they needed a reality check.
Adrianna and I got on the bus and sat where we had that morning. She did not bring up Danica's mean confrontation. I was happy for that. I thought I would be proud and want to vent, but I felt I had finally awoken from a long nightmare. I just wanted to move forward and be the new me. I had style and class. So Adrianna and I talked about our day and how we was ready to have other transportation rather than the bus. We also exchanged phone numbers.
It was win win for me. I had surprised and impressed a lot of people with the new me, Got the chance for an interview in the newspaper, Got invited to be on the prom commitee, Won my battle against Danica, but most importantly, I had my first friend. Not too bad for my first day. I was anxious to tell Tristen all about it. Someday I would laugh and joke about it with my parents, but not today.
I was left smiling, and with the feeling of a normal teenage girl for the first time of my school life.
