The evening went well even as the rain continued to fall. My Aunt Trudy stayed later than normal. My parents talked over my bedroom make over with my aunt. My Aunt Trudy seemed pleased with my choices I made for my bedroom. She also made suggestions to further design my room.
We all ate a warm dinner, and my parents congregated into the family room for coffee and conversation. I decided to shower and wait for Tristen's call. After I was dressed in my lounge clothes, I went to the family room, where I saw my Aunt Trudy had left for home. We all sat around quietly watching the evening news.
Tristen called an hour before our night prayer. He was happy as normal to speak with me. I tried to convince him of giving me hints on what to expect on our upcoming date, so I would know how to dress. My strategy failed. I was not getting no hints. I was starting to wonder if he even had plans.
We talked right up to the time we had nightly prayer. I confessed that I was really nervous about school starting soon. Especially after our dealings with Danica. I was sure she would make it hard on me. Tristen tried being understanding and logical about it, however I was insecure about it.
He told me a little about his family life. His life seemed so much more fulfilling than my own. But I knew life was what you made it. The funny part of it was that Tristen actually envied my life. I could not muffle a small giggle from slipping out. However, he was serious and did not approve of my humor.
We ended our conversation on a good note. He told me to dress like I did when we first met. That put excitement back into my life. I was really curious now. However, it was perfect timing to end our conversation. We said our good nights and good-byes.
After hanging up the phone I greeted my parents for our nightly prayers. Dad said an extra prayer for my upcoming date, for safe travels and for us to use our good judgement. He also gave a prayer for Tristen. We said our Amens, hugged, and gave each other pecks on the cheeks. With the rain at a steady flow, the night would be perfect for sleeping. I snuggled right into my bed and under the covers. I looked at my phone before closing my eyes. Tristen had sent me a message; "Miss you." I smiled. It warmed my heart. I texted him back a miss you too message, followed by Can't wait to see you tomorrow. The rest of the night I dreamed of going out with Tristen.
I woke up in a panic. Danica had somehow snuck her way into my dream. I had lost sight of Tristen at a mall, and when I finally found him, Danica had her arm through his.
My breathing was heavy and I was in a deep sweat. I looked around the room to make sure Danica wasn't lurking in the shadows. It was still dark out. I looked at my clock to find it was 3:00 a.m. I was afraid to close my eyes and go back into my nightmare.
I crawled out of the bed and went to the bathroom. I looked like I had saw a ghost. I washed away the sweat in hope it would clear my face and my bad thoughts.
I found an old stuffed animal and snuggled it close to my chest. I may have looked childish, but I felt secure. The rest of the night I slept in peace. I hope that my nightmare did not represent anything to do with my upcoming date.
