yerim was just about to crack an egg into the bowl, preparing to make an omelette when the doorbell rang.
with the egg still in her hand, she made her way to the door and looked at the monitor, only to realise that it was still broken from last month when joy visited her place and decided that it was a good idea to get drunk at 3pm.
things did not go well.
taking another look at the screen that was falling apart, she then turned to the door and opened it.
yerim was greeted by a familiar face, a face she knew too well.
it was the face she woke up to everyday for four years, the face she spent hours staring at and admiring when he fell asleep on the couch on sunday afternoons.
it was the face next to hers in the polaroid she kept in her phone case ever since they started dating, up until the very last day they spent together. it was the face that would appear on her lock screen every time her phone lit up.
jeon jungkook was at the door, and yerim didn't know how to react. she didn't even realise that she dropped the egg she was holding, leaving a mess all over her feet and the floor.
a million thoughts were racing through yerim's mind, and the only ones she could really register were that he still wore the same cologne, he was still in an all black outfit, and oh god she missed him so much.
but, despite having every cell in her body screaming at her to pull him in for a kiss, she didn't.
as much as she wanted to ignore everything else that needed to be addressed, she knew she couldn't just let the guard she put around her heart down so easily. not when she spent one year learning how to be without him, learning how to get over him, learning how to not let anyone else hurt her the way he did.
it was then that yerim snapped out of her thoughts with a jolt.
after all, it's been a year. so why did jungkook decide to show up at her doorstep now?

jungkook didn't expect the door to be opened so quickly, but when it did, it opened to show the yerim that he missed so dearly.
she was just as pretty as a year ago - actually no, she had gotten even prettier over the past year. she was still wearing the same pyjamas top that had bears all over it, and she was still her clumsy self - seeing how she dropped the egg onto the floor.
there were so many things jungkook wanted to say to her, so many things he wanted to hear from her, and he could feel tears welling up in his eyes. he felt so happy to see her again, and he was getting emotional already, thinking about how he wouldn't be able to spend more time with her in the future.
at that moment, jungkook felt so much regret for not cherishing the time they had previously. but he knew there was nothing he could do about it anymore, so he decided to look ahead and do whatever he could to cherish the rest of the day.
