It was the middle of the night, when Violet, haunted by dreams of the Quagmires dead, surrounded by a fire, woke up to a surprisingly satisfying stillness.
It was dark outside, and the day was cold and dreary.
It reminded her of the day Mr. Poe came down to Briny Beach and told them that their parents had perished in a terrible fire.
Violet stood up, looking off into the distance.
Then she realized she saw the last thing she thought she would see.
