School is fabulous. I love it so much. I love the people (although I've hardly talked to maybe 15% of them), I love the campus (even though it's horrible walking from class to class in the heat), and I especially love my friends.
Ahh yes, speaking of one of the devils, there's Shannon!
She's is leaning against a wall, her sketchbook one hand and a chewed-on pencil in the other. She's scribbling something fierce, something with as much enthusiasm as her arm is swinging into it.
"Don't break you're only pencil," I say, walking up. She's unfazed and keeps grinding her pencil onto the paper. A second later, the thing snaps in half.
"God damnit," Shannon frowns at the two pieces and chucks them into a nearby garbage can.
"Told you," I shrug.
"I need to get this done!" Her eyes are wild. "It's due first period."
"Well, here, take mine." I start to hand her a mechanical pencil but stop before I let her take it. "Don't break it please. It's my favorite."
Shannon rolls her eyes and snatches it. I check the time on my cellphone. I have a few minutes before I have to go to the library. I'm so excited but still a shaky type of nervous. Today is my first official day having a girlfriend!! I feel so...taken! But the good kind of taken *wink wink*.
"So, how did it go?" Shannon mumbles into her sketchbook.
I peer at her over my glasses, a goofy smile on my face. She knows. Of course she knows. She's the one who gave my number to Andrea. I don't doubt that Andrea told her what happened!
My best friends eyes flash up to me, back down to the art book, and then back up to me. Her hands, working gingerly on a smaller part of the drawing, stop. She's knows I know that she told. I think this is hilarious.
"I didn't ask her out. Sabrina is actually really mean and really, really straight. Andrea lied." I shrug my shoulders casually, watching Shannon jaw fall slack. I can't stifle my laugh any longer, this is all too funny.
"What??" Shannon whacks me with the sketchbook. "You bitch! Don't mess with me like that, man! Had me thinking all sorts of crap."
I scoff. "Oh, please. Andrea told me you gave her my number, I don't doubt that she told you what happened." I keep on giggling.
She rolls her eyes sheepishly, setting her artbook down on the stairs next to her. And then there it is in all of its glory. There, on the white paper, is a drawing so extraordinarily intimate and hilarious, it surprises me that Shannon actually drew it! She doesn't usually draw dudes, but after seeing this, it's totally obvious what has been on her mind
The kid with the purple hair. What was his name? Jason? Jerry..? No wait, it was Jacob! Yeah him.
In the drawing, Jacob is posing on a rock of some sort, his chest gleaming with silver armor. His purple his looks like it is blowing from a breeze because of how wispy and...well...out of his face it is. Beside him is a very badass version of Shannon. She's decked out armor, too, except hers is green and more..I guess earthy? Yeah! Earthy. I mean, she had a wooden spear in her hand...
I have to put my hands over my mouth to hold back my laugh. "Is that Jacob and--"
Shannon gasps and snatches the sketchbook from the steps. "No!!" She stammers. "OF COURSE IT ISN'T."
"Yes it is!"
"NO. NNOOOO!!" She stuffs the book into her backpack. "HEY LOOK IT'S TYLER. SEE YOU LATER!" Shannon runs away frantically in no particular direction, weaving in and out of people. Tyler is no where in sight, oh my god.
