"I must've walked these streets about a million times, I thought I knew them well but maybe I was blind 'cause everything's brand new"
Sean was lost.
He knew the things he wanted for his future but he didn't know how to get there, and worse, he didn't even know why he wanted those things so much anymore — dancing was everything he loved, I mean, he lived for it ever since he could remember. It has always been the reason he woke up excited every morning but lately, things have been different 'cause dancing hasn't been feeling the same.
When he was younger he wanted to dance as a way to inspire people to go after what they wanted, to not give up their dreams. He wanted to make dance transcend as a form of art and he wanted to touch people with his art. But once you are inside de industry things change, people change, you change and you can lose yourself. Everything becomes about time, money, and views, and all the rest is left behind or used just like a facet — everyone is fake, showing off pretty faces on social media while having an ugly heart.
He couldn't say for sure the moment or where he lost himself and the things he once believed, but he was finding it very hard to get himself back or to find someone that could actually help him, to show him a map to himself.
Well, in between his searches to find himself again he still had to live. So there he was, entering the studio for another class — the third and last one of the day. He was already pretty exhausted but it was Jake's class so he would never miss. Due to his tiredness, he decides to just sit back with his friend while the filming started since he wasn't feeling getting in front of a camera or dancing at all.
Jake did a solo and it was amazing, but to be honest, Sean was feeling so tired that he didn't even care, by this point, all he wanted to do was to go home and sleep, and even though the choreography was amazing everything still felt like old news — he had been there before, people would dance, it would be recorded and uploaded to youtube and all over social media. For the views and the comments and like buttons, and all the bullshit that has been driving him crazy.
He got up and was about to say goodbye to his friend Josh when something changed — Jake called her for a solo. I mean, he wasn't oblivious to the world around him so he knew who she was. He remembered her from the competition years and she was already pretty good. And being honest, he didn't really notice her lately, he saw her in a couple of classes but didn't really pay attention. But on his defense, he hasn't been himself lately.
She was wearing black from head to toe, except for a red hat, it didn't look like she was trying to catch any attention at all. Jake called her name and she looked surprised and while everyone clapped, her cheeks turned red — Sean smiled.
As soon as the music started she transformed, all the shyness went missing and suddenly she owned the room and Sean's attention — he couldn't take his eye off of her.
Every time she moved his heart would go faster almost as if he was the one dancing. He was confused because he knew her, he knew he had to have seen her dancing about a million times in the past months since they had lots of classes together — he knew that even if he couldn't remember per se — so he didn't really understand what was different this time.
Is she different? No, it isn't that. Am I different? I- Sean took a deep breath while she finished the choreo as a way to try to organize his mind. He wasn't different, but something was.
"Man, I thought you were leaving?" Said Josh standing next to him, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"Yeah, I was but..." He was lost for words, all he could do was stare at her.
Josh agreed. "Yeah, she's a beast, right? Honestly, I don't even think she's human sometimes." He joked grabbing his bag. "Wanna grab something to eat?"
"Hmmm..." Sean tried to focus on his friend without losing sight of Kaycee. "No man, promised to dinner home today."
"Okay, bro." They shared their handshake. "We'll talk tomorrow, drive safe."
"You too." He answered.
Sean didn't have a plan, and as Phoebe Buffay would say he didn't even have a "pla" but still, he pretended to be busy messing on his bag until she was leaving too.
After she finished talking with Jake she started to leave the building, and without having a clue of what to do he just followed. As soon as she walked out of the front door he knew he had to do something or he was going to lose his chance to talk to her.
"Kaycee." He called, and she turned — looking very surprised to hear from him, a very normal reaction considering that he hadn't talked to her in about a million years. Do I even remember how her voice sounds like?
"Hi?" She answered, a little concerned.
"Sorry to bother you it's just that..." he didn't know why he was so nervous but he for sure was. His mouth went dry and his brain stopped working for a second. "... I just wanted to say that your dance was really good."
"Oh..." She blushed. "Thank you."
Then silence. They were both awkwardly waiting on the sidewalk without saying a word to each other and it was drying Sean insane — he tapped his fingers against his tight trying to think about what to say next. It had never been this hard, it was just a girl, just Kaycee... it shouldn't be this difficult to form words and let it out his mouth.
He cleaned this throat. "So... are you waiting for a uber or something?"
She looked so surprised that he was is still talking to her. "I'm just waiting for my sister to pick me up." and just as if it was her clue, a girl that Sean assumed to be Kaycee's sister parked on the other side of the road.
"That's me." She said with a polite smile.
He didn't know what to do so he just watched as she got in the car and waved awkwardly until she was gone. He took a deep breath and shook his head while crossing the parking lot to his car. "Well, that was pathetic."
Sean got home safe and sound, and after a good dinner and a long shower, he was finally laying in his bed. Normally he wouldn't even take his phone to bed with him but there here was stalking her on Instagram. He didn't even need to be doing it because it was Kaycee, he practically knew her his entire life — except that he didn't for real.
But the thing was that he didn't really know her even though they had always been around each other. And the more he stalked her less he understood how come he paid so little attention to such a radiant girl.
Gosh, I really must be blind. He laughed at his thoughts and decided that it was enough for the day, locking his phone and setting it aside but not without following her first. When he was about to fall asleep he heard his phone buzz against the wood of his bedside table — kayceericeofficial has followed you.
