"It's like my lungs are opening for the first time... "
Sean didn't think she would say yes or that she would want to hang out with him, after all, they were almost strangers that at most could call themselves acquaintances — but she said yes.
The whole way to the ice cream place was quiet, they didn't really share a word until he opened the place's door to her and she answered with a very soft thank you. But it wasn't bad. Sean had grown used to the stillness lately since he's been shutting himself down from everyone and everything, but this silence he was getting used to was unrelenting and suffocating — the silence with her was awkward, of course, but it was peaceful too.
"Planning on choosing any time soon?" He asked laughing.
It had been about ten minutes that they walked inside the place and she still hadn't chosen a flavor. There was a line starting from behind them already and people were getting mad because she was asking to prove every single one of the flavors.
And if it was any of his friends he probably would have rushed or chosen for them but for some reason he was drawn by her indecision — or just by her in general. She seemed like a child lost in a toy store as if every new flavor of ice cream was better than the one before and she adored all of them.
It was adorable and funny.
"I'm so indecisive, right?" She answered him with an apologetic smile but she didn't need to flash one of those to him, Sean was having the time of my life just by watching her.
"You know what, what is your favorite?" She asked the boy.
"Strawberry." It wasn't really, his favorite had always been vanilla but the fruit's name just wheeled out of my mouth out of nowhere — perhaps it was due to the fact he had been smelling the scent emanating from her every since they danced together.
She smiled at him and turned to the woman behind the counter. "Two strawberries, please."
She tried to pay for hers but he claimed that he was the one that invited her so it was only fair for him to pay, she tried to argue but he won. With ice cream in hands, they just left the place for a walk — it was almost 1 pm but the streets were full. They sat on a beach to eat.
"You were thanking me before for dancing with you today..." She started talking out of the blue. He stared at her while she stared at the busy street. "I wouldn't say no, but I was very surprised that you wanted to dance with me."
"Why so?" He asked afraid that she could think he didn't found her a good dancer, which wasn't the case at all.
"Well, not me specifically." She finally looked at him too. "But everyone, I mean you have never accepted a duet before with anyone."
"Yeah, I think I needed change." She just agreed and went back to her ice cream, not really sure if she should ask more about it because she didn't want to seem intrusive.
On the other end, Sean was wishing she would ask more. After all, he was dying to open up about how he had been feeling because he never found himself comfortable enough to do with anyone — but it felt like he could hear.
"See that woman there?" She asked about a woman sitting across from them, eating what seemed like her lunch. He just nodded. "She thinks farting outside it's bad for global warming."
