Chapter 5:

I turned around and started walking out of the throne room. Was I truly ready for something like this? I'm not a child anymore. I walked up the hallway, consumed by my thoughts. What if I mess something up? What if someone dies because of me? I heard someone walking behind me. They were trying to be quiet, but I heard every step. I turned around and there stood Loki.

"Nice try. You know that nobody can sneak up on me, not even you, Loki," I smiled. I tried not to make eye contact with him. I didn't want him to see that I was worried. He looked grim. I knew he was upset, he could never learn to hide is emotions from me. He avoided my eyes and looked down. "What's wrong? Come, let's go to my room so we can talk," I said gently. He nodded and forced a smile. We walked side by side to my room. I walked in and sat on my bed. "Ok. Talk to me," I said. Loki sat next to me. His eyes were dark and sad.

"I'm just upset that Nocturne is back. How could he possibly have returned and already killed 5 families already. I'm worried about..." His voice trailed off. He leaned forward and laid his head in his arms.

"Worried about what?" I asked. He took a moment to respond.

"I'm worried about...you. I love you," he said softly, his arms still covering his head. I could've sworn my heart skipped a beat. I can't possibly be the reason he's so worried. Why would he be in love with me? We sat there in silence. "You're... in love with me?" I asked. He uncovered his head and looked at me, still slouched over. His eyes were gentle.

"Yes. I'm madly in love with you. I have been for years," he said quietly. His words echoed in my mind a thousand times over. I looked away. My face was red-hot and I was blushing like crazy. I was also smiling like a loon. Once I got control of myself, I turned to face him.

"Loki... I'm flattered, but the thing is..." I stopped and looked at my hands. "...I'm madly in love with you too" I said and looked him in the eyes. I grinned. His eyes sparkled in the remaining light.

"In Midgard, a man will ask his love if she wants to be his 'girlfriend' the term doesn't sound very serious or special in any way, but..." He started.

"But what?" I asked.

"Madelyn, will you do me the honor of becoming my 'girlfriend'?" He asked. I smiled.

"Well... I'll have to think about it..." I said. Before he could say anything I grabbed his face with my hands and kissed him. On the lips. It was sloppy and weak. It was my first kiss. I pulled away.

"Of course Loki" I said softly. He leaned in and gently kissed my cheek. I couldn't help smiling. He stroked my curly black hair. We sat there in complete silence. "Promise me something, Madelyn?" He said quietly.

"What is it?" I whispered.

"Don't you dare get yourself killed. Promise?" He said quite seriously. I laughed nervously and looked at my boots. They were black with dark purple lacing. In that short time between deciding on my answer, I noticed every detail on my boots.

"I promise. By the end of all this, I'll be standing right next to you. I promise."
