Chapter 17:

“Here you go, folks,” Chris said and gestured to the water to the right of the boat. Bruce stepped off the boat and felt along the air. He grabbed hold of something and started climbing up. He looked like he was climbing an invisible ladder, which I guess was what he was doing. Next was Tony, then Natasha, then Clint, then Steve, then Thor, then me. I walked to the same place where the invisible ladder was and reached my hands out. I felt something cold. I grabbed on and slowly started climbing. I got to the top and I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was an enormous ship, at least a half a mile long and probably a quarter mile wide. I couldn’t tell if it was some kind of army/airforce/navy base or something else entirely. Perhaps it was both. There were runways for planes and jets. There were young men and women in camouflage, and then there were men and women in uniforms I did not recognize. “Whoa…” I said to myself. I felt like I was in a dream. “Its been a while since I’ve seen this thing,” Loki said as he came up behind me. “What is this place?” I said, dazed. “It’s more than you could have ever imagined,” he replied. Not exactly the answer I was expecting, but it just made me even more excited to explore the inside. All of a sudden, Loki felt the need to carry me. He put one arm under my legs and the other under my back. “You know, I have two perfectly fine and working legs,” I laughed. “You have beautiful legs, dear, but I know you’re not feeling great. Don’t try to hide it,” he said softly. Could he be any more perfect? I don’t know. Probably. We walked in to find everyone sitting around a table, talking about Nocturne. A man with dark skin and a patch over left eye caught my attention. He waved me over. Oh no, what have I done now? “Who are you?” the man asked. “I’m Madelyn. It’s nice to meet you Mr…?” I said. “Fury. Nick Fury. Call me director Fury. Tell me, Madelyn… does Loki pose any threat to us?” He whispered. Did he really think we were that stupid to bring Loki if he still wanted to take over Midgard? “Not at all, sir. He’s on our side now,” I said, keeping a straight face. “And what about this monster that you killed?” He asked. “I don’t know where it came from. I don’t know why it was there. I assumed it had something to do with Nocturne. I’m afraid that’s all I know,” I said. He nodded and walked towards the table where everyone was talking. I stood there, alone. Not knowing if I would be welcomed into the conversation. I knew if I was to fit in, I would have to try. I walked over to an open spot between Loki and Natasha.
