Chapter 9

Chapter 9:

“Damn. Wait a second, do we have any money?” I said, Loki still carrying me. “Yes, I do. I have about 500, er, dollars?” Thor said. I had forgotten that he was there because he hadn’t said a word. “Oh, good job Thor” I said. I craned my neck to see him smiling. We finally got across the bridge completely. I looked up at the towering buildings. People on the sidewalks gave us strange looks. I realized that they probably haven’t seen anyone dressed like us. I didn’t feel embarrassed one bit, in fact, I was proud. “Loki… This is amazing.” I whispered in his ear. I saw the corners of his mouth curl into a smile. After about 5 minutes of trying to find a place to stay, we came upon a fairly large hotel that looked nice, yet cheap enough to stay in. “Hey Thor, what about this one right here?” I said, gesturing to the hotel. “You can put me down now, Loki” I said, laughing. He grinned. “Nope. I’m going to carry you the whole way. I’m not even tired.” He said cheerfully. I knew I couldn’t convince him otherwise. A man in a suit opened the door for us. He was too tired to care how odd we looked. “Hello! Welcome! What can we do for you?” A thin woman said. She had her hair in a bun and was wearing the same style uniform as the man who opened the door. “Do you have any rooms that are vacant?” Thor asked. “Yes we do! How many?” She said cheerfully. Loki and Thor looked at each other. “Uh, can you give us just a moment please?” Thor said to the woman. She nodded understandingly. “Do we want two rooms or three? Or even one?” Thor asked Loki and I. “Erm… I think we should get two rooms. You and Loki can share a room and I can have my own room since, well, I think I have to just sleep in my undergarments so I can let my clothes dry. I take it you two will do the same?” I said to Thor and Loki. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to sleep in the same room as Loki, I just wasn’t ready to sleep in the same bed. Not quite. “Good point. Yes I agree, two rooms.” Thor said. “Sounds like a plan.” Loki said. Thor strolled back over to the woman. He gestured for us to come over. He gave us each a plastic card. “Thor… what are these exactly?” I said under my breath. “They’re the keys to our room.” He explained. How weird… Plastic rectangles to open a door? It didn’t make sense to me.
