Blue
I was sitting in the office, counting our profits and comparing them to last week. It seemed like the new corners Ace implemented were actually working. Profits were back to where we needed them. As soon as I was about to take a break, I got a call from Ace.
"Yo, Blue, you in the office?" He asked.
"Yeah, wassup?"
"I'm pulling up. I just need someone to talk to shit about." He said. He sounded worried, and that shit lowkey worried me. I had to make sure he was good.
"Aight, imma be here." I said before hanging up.
About thirty minutes later, Ace walks through the door.
"Yo, wassup man? You sound like you going through some shit." I chuckled trying to lighten the mood. Anthony ran his hands down his face.
"Man, I done caught feelings for June's sister. She ain't even know I was in the business till June's fat ass mouth told her."
"Yo, for real? She must be low-key as hell not to know that you in the game."
"She is bro...she quiet, into her school and painting shit. She got a job and all. When I tell you she was pissed when she found out....yo she ignored me for three weeks. We just making up."
"Damn, three?"
"Yeah. The whole time I couldn't stop thinking about her ass...even when I was getting that fire ass head from Key. That's how I know my ass fucked up." Anthony sighed, thinking back to when he called Key Naomi's name.
"What you gonna do now?" I asked him. Anthony was always finding a way to get himself in trouble.
"I got Key hoe ass pregnant. And you know that's her friend; she was the one that came with Key to the party. She gonna be pissed at me again."
"Nigga, are you serious? Key out of all people? You better get a fucking DNA test; that could be half the block's baby." I said jokingly.
"I mean, of course, but the timing plays out. She was arguing with her boyfriend and she said you was ignoring her...so she got some dick from me." He said. "But besides that, what if Naomi finds out?"
"Nigga you sound just as bad as you did when you was with Natalie." I teased. Natalie was Anthony's ex that cheated on him with Terror.
Anthony fists clenched as he stale faced me. "I'm being serious right now, Mont. What if she finds out?"
I stared at him, feeling like Anthony was overreacting. The solution to his problem was so simple. "Ant, just make sure you tell her before June finds out. If you tell her first, she'll respect you for the honesty. You can't undo the past, so this is your next best option." I shrugged, not knowing what else to say. What's done was done...Anthony could only hope that she wouldn't be too mad at him.
I never really cared to help people with their issues, but I considered Anthony to be a brother to me. Anthony reminds me of my younger self...always trying to find a way to be a boss.
"You right. Man, you always been there for me."
Anthony's right. I been looking out for him ever since I seen him at the corner store.
Anthony had to be like 15. He was grocery shopping for his moms, and I was behind him in line. The cashier told him his total, but he was a couple dollars short. He started looking at his items, trying to figure out which one he should put back.
"I got it; how much he owe you?" I asked the cashier.
"$10.88." She replied.
"Thank you." Anthony said to me.
"It's no problem, little dude."
A couple weeks later I seen him outside selling candy.
"You got yourself a little business I see." I walked up to him. "Let me get three Snickers bars and two Kit Kats." I handed him a 5 dollar bill.
"Yup, I mow lawns too." He handed me the candy bars.
"For real? Well, this weekend how about I give you $50 to mow the lawn in front of my house?" I asked him. Of course he agreed. I gave him the address, and that weekend he was there early as shit.
After a couple months, I offered him a bigger job. Anthony became the first runner of the business. He did good, way better than some of the guys we have now. After recruiting more people, Anthony became my second man.
Anthony stood up, about to head out.
"Oh, and good job with the new corners. We back where we need to be. But, go ahead. Take care of your girl. Let me know what happens." I dapped Anthony up.
"Aight I will, thank you." He exited.
I decided to start counting my money while I waited for my boys from the corner to come back with their cuts.
