Can lays his forehead against the windowpane. After his revelation, Ms. Housos goes to find the nurse on duty to inform him of Sanem's prognosis. If he had any doubt as to who the woman on the bed inside the room was, it vanished when he saw the name written underneath the room number: Divit, Artemis.
Artemis. He should've known. Can has been searching for "Sanem Aydin" for years. The reality is she wasn't an Aydin anymore. She is a Divit. He didn't think she would've kept his name, especially after what he said to her the day he left.
"This was a mistake."
Can pulls out his wallet and looks at the lone picture tucked inside. Sanem looked radiant with a white dress and a crown of flowers. It looked like a picture from his desk. CeyCey probably assumed it was from the lollipop campaign. It could've been except for a few differences.
The dress Sanem wore was from the night she confessed her love to him for the very first time. He was always partial to that dress. It was the perfect blend of innocence and seductiveness. Just like her. The crown of flowers on her head wasn't pure white. There were a few stalks of violets and purple orchids. They made her look like an angelic nymph.
The most significant difference was the man looking down at her like she was the world. He was cradling her face, a wedding ring with a black moonstone displayed prominently on his left hand. The same ring he carries in his pocket at all times. The white stone on her engagement ring laid on her ring finger along with a plain wedding band. It was the only picture of their secret impromptu wedding.
Can remembered planning a massive romantic proposal. For a man who ran away from permanent commitment with his other relationships, he sure as hell made a big deal about his plans. Everything was set except Sanem found the engagement ring accidentally. She didn't even let him propose. He loved her enough to go through the traditions. She loved him enough to forsake them. In the end, she took the choice away from him.
Sanem asked him to meet her at the mountain house. What he thought was a romantic time with his love ending up being the happiest day of his life. Sanem arranged her own wedding with Emre and Leyla as witnesses. A civil wedding. In the eyes of the law, they'll be married.
"We'll do it your way later."
Sanem eased his fears. In a way, he was glad. Can never really believed in the conventional. He wanted to marry her. That's it.
Can's road to the past is interrupted when he spies CeyCey walking towards him with the little girl. CeyCey looks a bit frantic from the tears filling her eyes. She probably needs a nap. He doesn't have much experience with children, but he remembers how Emre used to cry when he was tired.
Can lifts her like as if she were a fragile teacup. He doesn't think she would warm up to him. He's a stranger after all, but she wraps her arms around his neck and lays her tiny head against his shoulder. She is adorable really. Wavy brown hair with blondish highlights, soft amber eyes, quirky lips. Can holds her tighter when she tells him her name.
"Violet Divit."
