Of Scars and Forgiveness
By: Mikha Joy VillezcaIt was another ordinary night, I thought.
I sipped on a Calamansi juice I bought
Feeling this cool breeze, enjoying the night
Walking beneath the Christmas lights.Suddenly I saw a familiar face
That I never see for hundreds of days
Wearing loose shirt and scattered jeans
A pale smile and old sins. And that very moment, I remember.
The cops, the screams, police sirens echoing.
The broken jars and crumpled sand paper.
I remember the silence-loud and deafening.I got my senses back finally
When I heard his undying apology
From his lies and shattered promises
Gone our poems, sweet hugs and kisses. But his sorry wasn't enough of a bandage
For these scars and beyond-repair damage
His past, like a rotting garbage stings in my memory
How-over drugs, he left his family. In between anger, sadness and confusion
A weary heart-full of emotion
And like a lonely little child, I asked longingly
"Why did you came back just now, Daddy?"
