Ellie's POV
Mom will arrive today. Last time we saw each other was on christmas last year. She worked as a surgeon abroad and has a very hectic schedule.
I woke up and went to the kitchen excitedly as I can smell freshly baked cookies. I saw my mom on the phone while munching on some cookies.
"Hey, Mom."
"I will call you back." She said to the person on the other line. "Hello, Honey. So, I have some baked cookies here. Shall we have some tea?" and she gave me a peck on the cheeks. "Look at you, all grown up. Boys are prolly lining up for you, huh?"
"Well, Mom, I rejected most of them."
"That's my little princess. You should let them fight over you."
"There is one boy though." I whispered to myself.
"What was that?" Mom asked curiously.
"Nothing. I mean, tea. Yes, tea." I i panicked and said it mindlessly.
I texted Jane that I couldn't go walk with them because my mother will take me to school.
On the car ride to school, mom is still talking on the phone. I wish she can spend more time with me. I really missed her. After we arrived at the school, mom said her goodbye waved at me. I will probably see her later. I want to tell her how about my new friend and her brother and how I joined the music club. I can't wait.
After some time, I found the twins separating ways again as they didn't attent the same class. I followed Sam on his way to the classroom. He was texting something. I tapped his back and greeted him.
"You seem to be in a good mood today." He said. Well that is true. Mom was here so I couldn't deny how happy I was about it.
"Yes I am. So who are you texting?" My nosy self couldn't prevent me from asking.
"Nothing. Just a friend." A friend huh? And why is he grinning?
"Alright. I will go inside." So I went pass through him still texting and smiling suspiciously.
After class, I saw a familiar gray sedan. That must be mom. I walk to check.
"Hey, Mom, I didn't exp-" before I finished my sentence, The sight of a vacant seat on the back made me stopped. "Where is mom?" I asked the chauffeur.
"Miss, your mom went rushing to the airport few hours ago. She said she needs to be in the next flight to Beijing for an emergency. She didn't had the time to say goodbye." He explained. "Shall I give our Miss a ride home?"
"It's ok Marcus. I am with some friends." I lied. "I will see you later.
I went to the lounge behind the school's main building. Good thing there wasn't many student hanging out this time. I put my bag down the bench with Sam's hoodie. I feel lonely again. Why do mom and dad always leave me? I wish we can spend a day with each other not thinking about their work. It started to get cold but I couldn't take the time to wear his hoodie. I don't even know which is greater? The cold or the feeling of emptiness inside me. After a moment of silence and feeling depressed, I felt a warm behind me. I looked around to see a familiar face. He and his beanie and headphones. He was holding his hoodie. I thought he is about to claim them back until he wrapped it around me.
"You could get colds staying here without a coat." He said. He is wearing a green scarf and immediately took them off of him. He put them on my neck and I was there sitting still, letting him do what he is doing.
"You don't have to do that." My best attempt to stop him.
"Mom always scold me when I go outside a cold day without wearing a coat." He smiled a little. "Well, my sis and I plan to have some hot chocolates. Do you want to come?" He asked. I nodded in response.
