Kath was gasping for breath as she opened her eyes as the pain seemed to subside. She carefully stood up and exhaled as she fixed her hair, which had fallen messily over her face.
She was startled with the sight of a mirror showing her reflection.
"Oh my goodness!" she yelled as she jumped back.
It was then that she became conscious to where she was. The dark alley with garbage cans, litter, and strays crawling was no more and instead remained a large room with gold embroidering and and intricate Roman designs across the ceiling. Behind her was another table filled solely of jewelry and on her side was a desk with books of various subjects arranged atop it.
The mirror was above what looked to be a large vanity, which also was neatly arranged and seemed to made of marble.
Kath's outfit had changed to. In contrast to her simple top and skirt, she now was wearing a large pink gown with jewels around the top half. The bottom was spread out and fell gracefully onto the ground. Turning her head, she noticed it seemed to be longer in the back and had a crochet-like design.
Her hair, though somewhat messy, was curled while her make-up seemed to miraculously have been done.
On top of her head laid a simple golden crown and around her neck was a heart locket that also appeared to be made of gold.
Kath twirled around as she realized what was going on.
"A third dream, hmm?" she mumbled to herself.
"Wow, beautiful."
The voice startled her and sent shivers down her spine. Turning around, she was met with a face of a man dressed a beige long-sleeved top with brown pants that hung high across his body.
Her eyes began to water at the sight of him, though she wasn't sure why. There was something familiar about him that made her feel safe.
"What's with that face?" The guy asked teasingly.
"I-I," Kath stuttered as a tear drop rolled down her cheek.
She wished she could remember him. And though this was a dream, something about it felt so real--like she was living out a past memory.
"Are you worried about tonight?" he asked. "Don't worry, everything will be okay."
"I hope so," Kath replied, deciding to play along.
"It will, promise," The guy responded. He averted his daze down and swiveled his face away.
"What's wrong?" Kath asked, quickly taking note of the sudden change of mood.
"I'll miss you," he whispered. "It dawned on me that today could be the last time we see each other."
"Why would you say that?" Kath questioned, her voice filled with a mix of confusion and worry.
The man sighed. "I know you wish for me to accompany you all, but I really cannot. My family needs me." The man smiled as he tucked a strand of hair across Kath's ear.
Kath felt a twinge of pain in her heart as she continued to whimper, though she had no logical why she felt a closeness with him.
Was he the guy in the other dream? she wondered.
"Don't be sad, Kath," he cooed as he pulled her into a hug. "I'll be by you in spirit, always."
"I miss you already," Kath cried out.
Whoever he was, he was special to her. That was all she could decipher at that moment.
