Previously: “You’re going to get some magic from the full moon tonight?” Travis questions again.  “It’s not magic,” I say. “I want to see it happen!  I have to see it to believe it,” he pushes. I heard the door close behind me, and turned to see Travis, following me outside. We walk through the woods until I found a clear, small area for me to sit. take off my bag and place it on the ground. I then proceed to sit Indian style on the ground of the forest. I inhale and exhale as I place my hands on my knees, back straight, and patiently waiting. The moonlight hit my skin and I feel the familiar tingling sensation begin to flow throughout my body. I start feeling a burning sensation building up from deep within me. It feels like a billion needles sticking into the pores on my skin, trying to find a way inside my body. Suddenly, I felt a hand gently touch my chin, bringing it down. Travis. He is kneeling on the ground in front of me. He looks down at me hands and places his on top. The warmth of his hands gives me a sense of comfort.

Chapter 12

“So are you going to tell me where you’re headed to?”

“I can tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.”

“Oh, so it’s classified or something secretive like that?”

“No, I just want to kill you.”

He froze as I kept walking. I try to hold back my laughter as I shine my flashlight in his face to see his shocked expression; I’m now walking backwards. He actually looked scared. “It was a joke, Travis. I was joking,” I admit to him with little laugh.

He visibly sighs and walks to catch up to me, continuing to use the flashlight I gave him. The flashlights along with the moonlight made it easier to see through the night.

“We definitely need to work on your sense of humor,” he states, but I just roll my eyes. I know, I’m not the best at making jokes, but who cares? Humor isn’t an important factor in my line of business.

Anyway, as of right now, I’m going over all the possible places I can ditch Travis. Or maybe I can just take him back to his house, and force him inside. “Random question: have you ever had a boyfriend?” he asks out of the blue.

I look to him in surprise at how random that is. I think back to my years at the institute. I remember there were a few guys that I thought were decent looking, but I didn’t act on it, mostly because I’m not into the whole dating world. I mean, a boyfriend would just be in the way. Plus, who needs that drama? “No,” I finally answer his question.

Travis suddenly stops walking. “You’re shitting me,” he states in a disbelief tone.

I scrunch my nose in disgust before stopping and looking at him. “That’s disgusting,” I reply back to his comment. He snaps out of his trance and shakes his head.

“You weren’t supposed to take that statement literally,” he mumbles mostly to himself, but I heard him. He continues walking toward me. “How old are you?” he ask me.

“Eighteen.”

“And you’ve never had a boyfriend?”
