                                                                 CHAPTER 8-APPRENTICE?

That's who he was! He was a boy named Samson who I had considered being my apprentice but then I started spying on him. He was swift and grace full, the two words I use to describe myself. Except he had a dream to be a mighty knight. I had talked to the battle master about it but he only shrugged and said, "Yes, I have also been wondering if he may be a good apprentice." So at that I dropped any hop of having him as an apprentice and went back to my day to day routine.

Now I was looking at him almost a month or two later and he hasn't changed at all! He was still the short, rossy cheeked kid that I thought of as a perfect apprentice. But watching him now hitting that dummy with his wooden sword, I knew I made the right choice not choosing him.

I sighed and continued watching them beat the dummies at the call a man, I didn't really know and didn't care who he was, called out. "I'm sorry." A soft voice said behind me. I turned and saw Kiera standing there staring at me. I gave her a weak smile, "I understand." I felt the stares of the boys behind us but I honestly didn't care what they thought.

She walked beside me and we watched them train together. Once I turned I watched all the boys quickly turn their strained gaze from them back to the dummies. Kiera shook her head beside me and asked, "I would be willing to spare my apprenticeship... To tell you." She croaked. I saw most of the boys turn their heads to look in awe at her but continued ignoring them. "But I wouldn't be willing to spare one of the best ranger's there is." I said simply, but I didn't turn to her. I continued leaning on the fence staring at the apprentices.

She turned her head and did the same. She started grinning and turned her head to me, "You really meant it?" I nodded and turned my head slightly to her and watched her grin become wider. "You're turning into a real princess." I said shaking my head and turning it towards the boys. I realized my mistake a second before she dived towards me.

I dodged and laughed and I ran backwards watching her get up and run  towards me. Almost all the apprentices were looking at us as we ran. I turned and started running at full speed and she started gaining on me. "DON'T... EVER...CALL ME... A PRINCESS!" She yelled as she tackled me. I laughed, my normal laugh which wasn't low pitched. It made people turn their head and look at us.

About six people stopped and watched as we laughed on the ground. I didn't realize the crowd until Halt came up and yelled, "What on earth are you doing?!?" We stopped laughing and looked at the crowd gathering around us and blushed. Halt stared at us, I saw the rage gathering in him as he stared at me.

Kiera hesitated but then said, "Halt it was me!" But he shook his head and stared at me. "Don't you people have anything better to do?" He said in a low voice to the crowd. The crowd slowly left and he threw off my hood and grabbed me by the hair. People watched but didn't stop walking as he dragged me into the forest kicking and punching, with Kiera following pale behind us.

Once we were there I finally threw off his hand and snarled. He rolled his eyes and said in a low voice to Kiera, "Did you tell her?" She quickly shook her head. I sat on the ground staring up at them, "Don't you dare kick her out of the ranger corpse Halt O'carrick." I said in my 'Jerry voice'.

He raised an eyebrow at me but I glared at them both and Halt seemed to get it immediately but it took a bit longer for Kiera. Once she nodded we continued like nothing happened, Halt yelled at us both and we pretended to feel guilty. I eventually got up and paced as he scolded us, reached out into the tree line, and pulled out a fourteen year old child.
