"Hello?"
"Hey, I'm just calling to see if you're doing alright?"
"I'm fine. How about you?"
"Fine, but," she listens as he takes a deep breath, "I miss you. I know it sounds crazy, but I miss you Stephanie. I can't stop thinking about you." He waits to hear her response, but the silence was growing longer. "Stephanie, can I come to your place? Please?"
"Um, sure but can you do me a favor?"
She opens the door in the excitement as if she's been waiting for days even though it's only been a few minutes. There he stands before her wearing a simple navy-blue t-shirt, black jeans, and white Nikes holding a bouquet blue rose. He looks at the beautiful figure in front of him, she is wearing black Nike sweatpants paired with a simple black t-shirt. Taking off his shoes, he chuckles to himself noticing her cute pair of furry bear slippers.
"Who is it Stephanie?"
"You promise," she whispers to AD as she slips her hand around on his elbow. "It's AD, my boyfriend," she yells back as she drags him into the living room.
"Aunt Nancy this is AD. AD meet my aunt and," she turns to the man beside her aunt, "and this is David."
"It's Daniel," her aunts correct her with a stern face. Rolling her eyes she shows AD his seat and sits beside him while he tries to hold in his laugh. She's so not into the poor guy, she can't even remember his name. Playing his role as the perfect boyfriend, he caught her by surprise as he plants a kiss on her soft cheek and takes her hands in his interlocking their fingers.
"I didn't know you already had a boyfriend," her aunt says clearing her throat trying to save the embarrassment. "Your mother didn't tell me."
"She doesn't know yet."
"So how long have you two been dating," Daniel asks with much interest.
"A month," they both answer at the same time.
"We met at the Ingram's fundraising gala," AD says with a smile scooting closer to her and snaking his arm around her waist. "I'll be lying if I don't say that she took me by the wind because as soon as she walked into the building, she caught everyone's sight," he says looking over to her. "The moment I saw her, I wanted to know more about her."
"Well," her aunt says, "It seems like you two had plans, guess my niece wasn't lying for once when she said she already had plans. So, how about we'll just leave and let you two be."
"Sure," Stephanie quickly answers getting up from AD who was also getting up. All she wanted to do was to get her aunt and Daniel out of her apartment.
"Bye. It was nice to meet both of you," AD says giving each one of them a handshake and then pulling Stephanie close to him by her waist.
After her aunt and Daniel left, the two of them kept a safe distance between them. The awkwardness in the air was killing both of them altogether. Each time one of them wanted to say something they would turn around to look up at each other and then look away. Finally, Stephanie broke the silence by offering to make green tea latte. He follows her into the kitchen intensely staring at her every movement. She was moving quickly as if she's done it so many times.
Feeling his intense gaze made her body hot and she was sure that her face was crazy mad red, the green tea latte was done quicker than she thought. Without lifting her face to meet his, she gave him his cup while she turns away really quick to open the fridge and offer to make some food. She was hungry since her aunt showed up unexpectedly with Daniel and didn't give her time to eat brunch. Yes, she likes to sleep in on the weekends, that's what she lives for. Her whole life is all about, food, sleeping in, and work. Of course, she'll meet her friends here and there once in a while. While grilling the chicken thighs in the pan, she thinks back to a few days prior when she left to fly back home. AD insisted on coming back with her saying he had some important matters to attend. Little did she know, he meant for her to fly back on his private plane, at first, she refused, but with a little convincing from the Ingram siblings she agreed.
"You want to play a game," AD offers.
"Sure."
"Let's play the truth game," he says pulling out a lie detector, "we'll ask each other a question and we can only tell the truth. Each time the detector buzzes which means we're lying then we take a shot," he says pulling out two shot glasses and a bottle of wine.
"Call," she replies.
Five minutes into the game the lie detector has been detecting both of their answers all true. But to be honest they have been asking safe questions with each other keeping boundaries safe and sound. It was her turn again to ask a question, deciding to make the game more interesting she decides to go for the questions that have been irking her.
"Have you ever had a real relationship?"
"Yes."
"Did you love her a lot?"
"Yes," he answers raising an eyebrow wondering when she's going to push the button on the lie detector.
"Did you regret loving her?" She watches him as he hesitates to answer to her.
"Yes."
"Do you still love her?"
"No," he replies with a firm answer. He watches as she smirks and presses the button. Anxiously waiting for the detector to make its final judgment the anxiety rises in him. it's been a long time since he last saw his ex, there's no way he would have any feelings left for her, or would he? "ouch," he exclaims as the detector buzzes and send shock waves into his body.
"Well, I guess that earns you one shot," she says with a smile trying to hide her disappointment as she pours wine into his shot glass.
With the game heated up, she realizes that she's up for a match against AD, they were no longer playing nice with asking the questions. The questions were becoming more and more serious, but they were both enjoying the game as they were getting to know each other more. She has taken ten shots, while AD has taken seven. This time, it's her turn again and she's going to get him back.
"Is there a girl you like?"
"Yes, but I don't know if she likes me."
"Ever go to sleep at night imagining about all the wild things you'll do to her?"
"Almost every night."
"Out of all the girls you met at Hayley's party, which one would you like to share a hot passionate night with?"
"How about I just show you," he says with a smirk as she looks at him confused. Suddenly, he gets up from his seat and leans towards her to gives her a deep passionate kiss. At first, she resists his kiss, but then something overcame her and before she knows it she was kissing him back. As his hand that was cupping her face slowing travels down her neck, she pulls away as her phone rings bringing her back to her senses.
"You're beautiful," he whispers as he magically hands her phone to her. She smiles at him as she grabs her phone from his sneaky hands.
"Stephanie," AD says, "you okay?"
"Huh," she says turning around to find him so close that she almost bumped into his chest.
"You okay?"
"Yeah."
"Well, the meat isn't," he says pointing to the chicken thighs that were burning.
"Oh my god! AD why didn't you say anything," she exclaims as she turns off the over and removes onto another burner. Looking at each other for a bit, they both laugh in disbelief. "So, you want pizza or what?"
"How about I treat you out?"
"Sure," she says after a moment of hesitation.
"I'll wait while you get ready," he says taking his empty cup to her sink to wash it as if he belongs in her kitchen. "It's a date by the way."
