The fall dance had been on a Tuesday, so when my alarm rang to wake up for school the next day, I turned over and groaned with anger. I finally pulled myself out of bed, and went to my closet to pick out my clothes. I chose a baggy dark-blue sweater with ripped jeans, despising all my "pretty girl" clothes for they reminded me of what Derek loved for me to wear.

I ran out the door, skipping breakfast because I was too nauseous to eat and I didn't want to speak to my mother, who had to leave for work anyways, and starting walking my way to school the long way, so I could avoid Perry. I didn't want to speak to anybody right now, and I was afraid of what they would think of me if they found out what happened.

I made it to school ten minutes late, feeling glad when I found the area around my locker empty. I didn't want to see Derek again. I was afraid.

When I made it to my first period class, Math, I knocked on the locked door to get let in. Ms. Jason, my math teacher, gave me a surprised look and let me in. Perry and Trish were in my class, and when I gave them small smiles, they looked the other way and rolled there eyes. I wondered why they did that when I took my usual seat at the back of the class, taking out my binder but not writing down the notes. Instead, I checked my phone and seen a post on Facebook by Derek.

totally got laid last night at the dance!!!

I read the comments, most of them wondering if it was me and saying how "slutty" I was for doing it at the dance, making my face burn with embarassement. I also noticed that Derek had sent me a few, more like a lot, of texts.

Derek: hey babe where'd u go last night???

Derek: seriously where did u go???

Derek: you better not have ditched me.

Derek: i gave myself to you and this is what i get

Derek: plz babe answer.

Derek: ily baby please reply

Derek: just meet me in the staircase at lunch.

I bit the inside of my cheek nervously and shut off my phone quickly. I had been so intrigued by my phone that I didn't notice Ms. Jason calling on me.

"September, what is the answer to the equation on the board?" she asked me, her eyebrows raised. The board read "find x if 10=2x+4". I swallowed the lump in my throat and scratched my arm nervously, when the bell for second period rang, saving my butt. I jumped out of my seat and made my way quickly to the door, when Ms. Jason stopped me.

"September, please try to pay attention next class," she said softly to me, a worried look on her face. I was one of her best students, and not paying attention wasn't normal behavior for me. I told her I would, and I quickly left her class to get to my locker. Luckily, I hadn't seen Derek yet, since all his morning classes were on the other side of the school. Unfortunately, we had English together, which was after lunch. I was afraid to see him then.

I got my physics books, and made my way to the class. I tried my hardest to pay attention all class, which was difficult, but finally the class ended eighty minutes later. I left the class, my hands shaking from anxiety, worrying that Derek would find me.

I would have never thought that lunch would end up like it did.
