We were both sitting quietly in Xavier's car, driving away from the school when he asked me what kind of music I wanted to listen to.

"What kind do you have?" I asked curiously. Anything would be better than sitting in this awkward silence.

"I have some Rise Against, Bring Me The Horizon, Ed Sheeran, Mayday Parade, Pink Floyd, Pierce the Veil, and Slipknot. Do you like any of them?" he asked me.

"Ed Sheeran is actually my favorite musician. Do you have his new album?" I asked, getting excited at hearing my favorite singer's album once again.

"Of course," he said with a smile, playing the album on his iPhone, which was connected to the car's speakers. We sat there for a bit, listening to his music, when Xavier pulled into a McDonald's parking lot. He turned the dial down on the radio.

"Do you wanna get some food? You look like you haven't eaten for days?" he asked, obviously seeing my hunger. I nodded my head and we both went in and he ordered chicken nuggets for both of us.

"I think I see some tables outside. Want to sit there?"

"Sure," I told him as we got our food, taking it to the glass table on the outdoor patio facing a road.

I started picking my food apart, eating some of it but not all, as I was still feeling sick over what happened with Derek.

"What happened to you?" Xavier asked. I looked up at him, wondering if he was the right person to tell, but decided against it.

"I just got into a fight with Derek, and now he is making my life a living hell," I half-lied to Xavier. He could tell that I was lying, but never brought it up.

"I just want you to know that I think you're pretty cool, and I'm here for you, no matter what happened between you and him," he said sincerely.

"I think you're cool too," I truthfully told him. I thought he was awesome, his style, his drawings, the way his eyes lit up when he was doing something he loved or was listening to music. It was amazing.

"How about I take you home?" he said to me, checking his phone, which read 2:53. I was usually home at 3:00, so I had to get home quickly.

On the way to my house, we listened to Ed Sheeran once again. Xavier's favorite song was Tenerife Sea, and mine was Even My Dad Does Sometimes.

Before I got into my house, I gave Xavier - my new friend - my number and a smile, and I thanked him for taking me away from the hell that school was.
