She learned everyday, like a young child at school. Her mind expanded everyday; memories flashing before her eyes like fireworks on the fourth of July. The battle of New York was all there; her first mission with S.H.I.E.L.D was crystal clear and her old day to day life of training, laughter with colleagues and times where she didn't think she'd make it out alive were vibrant, well-defined and distinct in her mind - everything was falling into place... except Clint.

Three months didn't seem like it had passed by, but in reality it had. In that time Natasha had started working out again, she could speak her various languages fluently, she could bake her famous lasagna again and even remembered her tactical moves for fighting. Everyday she'd get better and remember new things, but the most important thing that Clint wanted her to remember, she never could.

As she progressed with her life, becoming more positive and happy, the more Clint seemed to fade and become more unhappy. Since that last kiss a month ago he couldn't stop thinking about what he'd said. He could have just told her the truth to persuade her, to try and make her see that what they had wasn't just make believe, it was real. It was so fucking real for him and it still was, but why couldn't she remember? Yet again, Clint thought hard for a while now and then as to if he should just bite the bullet and tell her what had happened. He came close sometimes, sucking in a breathe of air as he said down next to her, her eyes looking at him expectantly; gleaming with the fire in her eyes that he'd loved since day one, but he'd come up with a lie again and again.

Clint and Natasha spent a week apart in the last month while he went on a mission in Peru, but the week apart just made his heart grow fonder for wanting her by his side. He couldn't remember the last time he'd slept in his own bed due to Natasha still living with him, but it wasn't the bed he longed for, it was to hold Natasha against his chest; feel her body exhale into his - slowly, calmly and in time with him. Five months since her return and he still loved her every bit that he did before then.

But Natasha was a completely different story.

Natasha was back on her feet. She'd been allowed back onto two mission at S.H.I.E.L.D and was allowed access to Intel once again - making her feel almost completely back to her normal life. She'd spent her nights either training hard, researching hard or learning hard about herself. She'd come to the last parts of her file, and just about absorbed and recalled everything that Banner said she could. Her brain felt like a complete jigsaw puzzle, but no matter how much she told herself everything was in order, there still felt like there was a tiny piece missing somewhere to complete the whole image - albeit, it never came to mind.

"What do you want for dinner"? Nat asked as she hung her coat upon the hangers in Clint's apartment. Natasha had opted to continue to live here with Clint for the time being, due to still feeling fragile and enjoying his company. Natasha shivered from the winter air she'd just ran seven blocks in, but nonetheless shook it off and carried on into the living room - looking over at Clint, who sat perched up on the window seat.

"I already ma-" Clint stopped mid-sentence as he turned to look at Natasha. "Jesus Christ, Nat" Clint lifted from his crouched pose before strutting to Natasha's side. "You're like a block of ice! You're actually turning blue" Clint exclaimed, rubbing his hands on her icy forearms.
