I woke up with various tubes and needles in my skin. I heard a beep every few seconds. I turned my head to look around and there was a sharp pain in my left shoulder, causing me to wince. The room itself was quiet but I could hear people talking and walking around outside. I found a 'nurse call' button and pressed it. Within a few seconds a short asian woman came walking into the room.
"You're awake," she smiled at me.
"How long have I been here?" I asked.
"Two days."
"Why am I here?" I asked. I couldn't remember much after the police coming into the room at Danny's hotel.
"You were shot in the shoulder," she said.
"Can I have a different nurse? Or someone who knows what happened to me?"
"I'm sorry miss, I'm the best option you have at the moment. You have had a few visitors though."
"Who were they? Do you know their names?" I asked, starting to get upset.
"A Jake something or other," she said.
"Jack," I clarified.
"Yeah sure. A Mackenzie and a Taryn."
"Okay. Thank you." She wasn't that helpful but it was better than nothing.
"How is your pain?" she asked.
"It hurts like a bitch," I told her.
"I'll get you some medicine to take."
She came back a few minutes later and had two other people standing behind her. It was Jack and Jack. She handed me two white pills and a cup with water before leaving the room.
"Some crazy shit has happened to you in the past few weeks huh?" Jack Johnson said.
"That might be a bit of an understatement," I said, trying to laugh but laughing hurt too much.
"Do you remember anything?" Jack Gilinsky asked.
"No. I just remember him pointing a gun at me and the police busting into the room then everything after that is black nothingness."
They both nodded. "What are you guys doing here anyway?"
"Jack hasn't shut up about hoping that you're okay," Jack Johnson nudged him and Jack Gilinsky's face turned red.
"Well I hope I'm okay," I said. "It hurts to even laugh."
"Well I hope you get better," Jack said, still red.
"You and me both," I said smiling.
"I'll leave you two alone," Jack said, leaving the room.
"Do you know anything about Danny?"
"They arrested him but other than that I don't know," he shrugged.
"I need to know what happened. I can't even lift my arms to read something. I hate this."
"But atleast you're alive," Jack said.
"I know," I sighed.
"I have to go. But I'll see you later," Jack said, placing a kiss on my cheek. I savored the feeling and watched him leave the room.

A week later I was finally discharged from the hospital. I had Taryn drive me home and I was thankful that I could finally do things on my own again. The only thing I couldn't do was lift heavy things on my own. I walked into the apartment and smiled. I never thought I would be so happy to be back in this shitty apartment but at the moment I couldn't think of a better place to be. Taryn put my stuff in my room and I walked to the bathroom and turned on the shower. I wasn't supposed to get the wound wet so I put stuff over it and got in.
