Amanda's POV

What's the hardest for a babysitter? Hm that's a good question. In my case was being able to discipline a spoiled 4 years old. When parents do not support you it just makes your job a lot harder, but Connor's mom had a good heart and I had always thought that one day she'd realize that what her son needs the most were limits. Since she wasn't going to put them down, I had taken that responsibility upon myself.

That day I came to his house around the usual time and not two seconds after I had a little monkey wrapped around my legs and the biggest smile of all. I smiled back at Connor who kept on making monkey noises, so I played along that I was a banana tree. After a couple times of him saying he was a hungry monkey I thought it was better to just prepare the poor thing a snack before he actually eats me. I asked him gently to play a bit by himself while I was in the kitchen and he complied, now switching to his iPad.

I was quick to put something together to eat, and once I did I returned to the living room to fetch Connor. But of course what I had in mind wasn't in the boy's plans and he was quick to let me know.

"Play" Connor demanded for attention as he stared at me intensely with his beautiful eyes when he caught me staring at him tenderly.

"Nuh-uh. First you're gonna eat your snack as I clean the kitchen, ok?" I explained to him as calmly as I could but it did little to calm his anxiety.

"No! Play now" he bursted out while crossing his little arms on his chest like a petulant child.

"Hey, I don't like that tone at all mister. I know you want to play and we will, but first you gotta eat something love. We can play later" I said with finality in my voice and started to walk towards the kitchen expecting to be followed by the little one, but he never came. When I flipped my head around I saw he had not moved not even an inch. "Conner come on"

"Nooo" he whined dragging out the 'o's as his voice rose to a high pitch. Fortunately for me after taking care of him for so long i already knew what I needed to do for him to listen.

"I'm gonna count to five for you to get into the kitchen" I warned the toddler but I only got a defiant glare as a response. "One... two... three" I rose my voice as I approached to the dreaded number, but before I could say it quick footsteps sped up through the kitchen door.

When I got in I saw Conner was already sitting at the table obediently so I smiled warmly at him. I knew he was more than capable to follow rules and get along with people, but when your mom gives you everything the second you want it it's hard to be patient in life. I placed a plate of carrot and cucumber sticks with some ranch dressing on the side in case he wanted it. I left him chewing on one happily as he talked to himself while I dedicated myself to wipe down the counters, wash some dishes left and swipe the kitchen floor. When he was done Conner announced it happily, knowing now it was time to play. I told him to go pick up a game we could play while I washed the plate he had just used, although he hadn't left hardly anything to clean.

As I walked back to the living room Conner skipped towards me with one of his favorite games between his hands: battleships. I thought it was a really fun game and it was good to keep him apart from his iPad for a while. That kid is just addicted to candy land.

"Alright. You remember how to play, right love?" I asked gently as he nodded his head sheepishly, his lips twitching a bit. I frowned at the gesture thinking something bothered him but I thought nothing of it as we carried on with the game.

After a few times of playing since I knew him, Conner had only gotten better and better at the game. He was really smart and it filled my heart with pride to see him grow up each day into this wonderful person. Of course, that didn't mean he didn't have his bad days like everyone.

It was a really tied game. I could see across the board how the boy's face gave into frustration, causing a huge frown come across his angelical face. I was really starting to get on the edge with his huffing and pouting, but I thought it was better to just finish the game. One more ship was all that it'd take for me to win, and I intended to talk to him about his attitude once I did. Only that I never got the chance to actually speak a word after Conner realized I had sunk his last ship.

"No! No, no, no, no!" he shouted out in full tantrum and caught me low guarded when he kicked the board with his little foot, causing a mess in the middle of the living room. After that, he just plopped down on the floor on his bum and started crying louder and louder.

"Conner! Why would you do that?" I asked the frowning 4 years old boy while my eyes scanned the scattered pieces around the floor and the toddler kept on with his cries, deaf to my lecture.

What shocked me the most was his reaction. I would have thought this was just a moment of absence and that once he had a second he'd clean up his act, but the exact opposite happened. He turned his feathered hair head around to give me the most hostile look I have ever seen from a boy his age, the lip jutted out as a sign of rebellion and reddened eyes from his crying.

That does it.

I placed my hands beneath his armpits and easily lifted the boy to lay him across my indian style folded legs with a frown on my face. This didn't pleasure me at all yet I knew deep in my heart it was necessary. Conner was a sweet boy and a downright brat at the same time. Lucky for me I knew just what he needed.

My hand fell down on his tiny butt and I felt how he sucked in his breath in order not to cry. He usually tries to take it like a big boy but soon enough his whimpers got to my ears at the same time as the smacks bounced on the walls of the room around us. After five smacks the poor boy was already a mess of tears, even though I hadn't even used too much force.

"It is not ok to throw a fit like that Conner. When you win, you win. And when you lose, you lose. There was no need for your temper tantrum, which I hope it's over now" I spoke harshly to the 4 years old who shook over my lap with each erratic breath he tried to take. For all answer he nodded his head 'yes' furiously to indicate me he was way past the brat stage and ready to be my good boy again. "Alright. Just three more" I warned him and brought my hand down on his trembling butt again, repeating over and over in my head he was almost done with it. My heart couldn't take much more and neither did his rear end.

With one last resonant smack Conner released all the tension and let his tears fall down across his pink cheeks. I could sense he was quite frustrated with himself as I was with him and I took pity of the poor thing getting all worked up. I raised him in my arms and held him close to my body so he could take out whatever that was bothering him. We usually get along pretty well and he loves to play with me, but something seemed wrong that day.

"B-bad" was all I could get out of his erratic crying and I felt a knot forming on my throat.

"No sweetie, you just made a mistake. We just learn not to do it again, right?" I spoke to him gently trying to get the reason of his none stop waterworks. The spanking had been over for minutes now.

"Can't play. Stupid" he kept letting out random words and I had to put them together. When I did I finally realized what he meant.

"Connor just because you lose one time it doesn't mean you're stupid. It's just a game sweetie" I said raising the boy from my chest where his face was hidden to speak to him while looking right into his eyes. "We don't always win but we do our best. Ok?" I said resting my hand gently on the top of his head, caressing his hair softly.

"Ok" he repeated after me and I felt him a little more calmed than before. It seemed that I had gotten to what really troubled him that day.

I didn't expect him to be perfect, but he knew to expect punishment from me if he decided to misbehave. I wanted nothing more than to see him turn up into a good person and it pained me when I realized he was growing up too fast to my liking. But hey those are the hazards of being a babysitter.
