Be good. Take care of your sister. Those were the instructions Alex Leithold had been left with only 17 years old when his parents left. Both of them successful doctors, they had taken on a trip to undeveloped countries to serve in 'Medecins Sans Frontieres', an organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters. They weren't sure when they'd return, if they would at all, so they had left their children provided for life with a big house and their needs covered for as long as they could. Both Alex and his older sister Scarlett had never been too close to their parents, but the thought of it just being them from now on left some emptiness in their hearts. Alex shielded himself in sports and his friends at school, whereas Scarlett grew distant from her brother and found comfort in simply being a brat.

Being a senior she had one foot outside of school and her mind focused on one thing: starting her career as model. She had been worshiped for her beauty since she was a little baby, and this had only improved as years went by. She had an exceptional body and she was not oblivious about it. Her parents had prevented her from starting an early career in modeling, but now they were out of the way she felt she needed to take the chance and explore her freedom. Who needs school anyways?

"Scar, are you going to the party tonight?"

"Meh. I don't know Cara. Those parties are kind of lame now" Scarlett said to her best friend as they walked down the boring hallways she couldn't wait not to see again.

"I know! But words are Jeffrey's brother is back in town looking for new talent. This is our chance!"

Victor Demarchelier was one of the best fashion photographers in the country, and he had lived in the small town Scarlett couldn't wait to get out of. He'd come back every now and then to visit his younger brother Jeffrey but mostly in seek of new talent. He had taken a girl or two and turned them into big fashion models, although word spread he was a little too friendly with his models. Scarlett didn't mind though. She knew it was something normal in that world, and she'd do anything to be a star.

"Then we're not missing it. We have to make sure Victor notices us. This town is getting too small for me to fit in" she rolled her eyes with her brand attitude as she pulled her hair up in a messy bun only she could pull off.

"Tell me about it!" Cara said sharing her friend's feeling. They both had dreams too big for this town.

It's not like she wanted a ride with the loser that occupies her house, but it was better than driving home. As much as their parents had left them, they only had one car and usually Alex used it to work. She for sure wouldn't take a job in Starbucks to provide the family, so he might as well have it. It wasn't until fifteen minutes later Justin showed up.

"Hey Scar. How was school?" he said trying to be polite with the girl that looked just as exhausted of school as he was.

"Whatever. Where were you?" she said with her usual hostility towards his brother's friend tardiness.

"Detention" Justin said coldly, obviously not wanting the girl to dig any further into the matter.

"Fell asleep again?" Scarlett said knowingly and wasn't surprised when she saw him nodding with the corner of her eye. "Dude go to the doctor. Is annoying to listen to your nightmares all night" she said without dropping her fingers from her phone. She was having a live or die conversation about what to wear that night.

Justin remained awfully silent during the rest of the road back to their homes. He secretly felt ashamed that the girl he was trying so hard to impress had to hear him practically bawl during the nights, but he really couldn't control it. He had nightmares every time things would get out of control in his house. He felt safer staying at Alex's but he still couldn't get a proper sleep.
