You're WHAT?!

Jae was having a good day.

His hair was soft and silky, his skin was acne-free, the normal aches and pains of his body had vanished, and he could've sworn that his eyesight was getting better.

Now Jae was never really a guy of strong opinions, which was useful in some cases and incredibly infuriating in other cases.

On the topic of soulmates, for example, Jae was indifferent.

Never have a soulmate and travel the world, free of strings and free to do whatever the fuck he wanted? Cool!

Have a soulmate, someone to confide him, someone he loved and someone who loved him? Equally as cool! (Unless his soulmate was an 'I love dick' tattoo or something...not that that wouldn't be true...)

But he hadn't anticipated just how good it would feel to have a soulmate. Sure, his soulmate had a bit of a fiery temper, claimed to hate him and held him responsible for ruining something (Jae hadn't quite got to the bottom of that), but that feeling, that tug and twist in his stomach whenever he touched Brian, whenever he looked at Brian...that made everything worth it.

And yeah, maybe Brian was ignoring him and maybe he hadn't set eyes on Brian since Friday, but Jae believed in fate and he believed in the taste of Brian's lips and he way his cheeks turned pink after the kiss and the way his sun-kissed skin felt under his fingertips, and he believed that it wouldn't be long before they saw each other again.

So things were good!

Except for one minor inconvenience.

He had to break things off with Jungwoo. Not that things had ever been on with Jungwoo, not officially at least. But he'd kissed him on the lips and asked him out to a party, the former before he'd even introduced himself, and the latter before the day was out. And if Jae was honest, that was the furthest Jae had ever got with a guy. Except, for Brian of course...they were kinda fated to be together forever now or whatever.

Jae stuck his hand into his pocket. He couldn't help but beam as he strolled down the corridor. And then there he was! Not Brian (disappointing), but none other than Kim Jungwoo! A tendril of guilt twisted in Jae's gut. But Jungwoo would understand, right? He hand that gone off to have a one night stand with some nameless, faceless dude, he'd ground his soulmate. His soulmate!

~~~
Jae was the type of guy you see from miles away. He didn't have the type of face that was easily recognisable. His dyed-blonde fringe hung like a curtain over half his face, thick black glasses framed his face, making his eyes seem like those of an insect, he wasn't movie-star drop-dead-gorgeous or Oh-my-God-take-me-now!-handsome like Jaehyun or Yuta. He was attractive in a softer, subtler way. He had the type of face, soft lips, soft eyes, soft cheeks, that made you dream of picnics in empty parks, love songs and movie-nights. He wasn't the love-at-first-sight type of handsome. He was the Oh-my-God-I'm-falling-for-my-best-friend type of handsome.
And if he was shorter, maybe Jungwoo wouldn't have noticed him, the way he was drowning in a (very) oversized grey hoodie with the hood pulled up over his head like a grim-reaper's cloak. But that guy was a fucking tree and Jungwoo spotted him straight away.
He ran right up to him, blocking his path.
After some intense thinking over the weekend, Jungwoo had come to the conclusion that Jae was his soulmate.
Who else could it be? It was Jae he'd gone to the party with, Jae who had kissed him on the lips...yes, he was pretty sure that they must've touched hands at some point before...whatever happened that night. Most likely whilst exchanging their phone numbers or something...But apparently not. Jae had to be his soulmate.
But now Jungwoo was standing in front of the elder, he wasn't so sure. His heart didn't beat widely, his head didn't spin. No fireworks crackled behind his eyes.
"Oh! Jungwoo. I was just looking for you!"
Great! That must mean he knows too!
The knot in Jungwoo's stomach loosened a little.
"That's great," Jungwoo sighed in relief, "So I guess we're on the same page?"
"Well...I dunno. Maybe?" Jae replied.
On the same page? What page?
"Let's just say it at the same time, okay?" Jungwoo beamed. Really, Doyoung had always been the one wishing for a soulmate, the one who dreamed up impossible events and romantic fantasises about the day where he'd meet the person he was meant to be with forever.
Jungwoo hadn't allowed himself the pleasure? Not many people had soulmates. And even then, what was the chance of meeting your soulmate in a world with seven continents, one hundred and ninety five countries, and a population of seven billion?
But here, now, in this time and place, his soulmate was in front of him, right in front of him. And sure, If Jungwoo had been given the chance to pick his soulmate, Jae wouldn't have been his first choice. Someone sporty, someone on the basketball team - like Jaehyun, for example (don't tell Taeyong). Someone who could break his heart because for some reason, that was the type of guy Jungwoo went for.
"Alright," Jae shrugged, "On the count of three. One..."
"Two..."
"Three..."
"I'm breaking up with you."
"I'm your...wait, you're WHAT?!"
